GARDENDALE, ALABAMA: Deandre Javontay Jones, a 27-year-old resident of Gardendale, has been arrested by authorities for making threats on social media to carry out a mass shooting at a bar located on Birmingham's Southside.

Nevertheless, the twisted individual openly expressed a readiness to end his own life "with a smile on my face."

What was the motive behind the disturbing threats of shooting?

The arrest comes after officers from Birmingham's South Precinct responded to reports of threats at the Upsidedown Plaza on Magnolia Avenue around 7:30 pm on Saturday, January 20.

Investigations revealed that Jones, a patron who had been removed from the bar a few days earlier, had taken to social media to express his intentions of returning to the Upsidedown Plaza for a shooting.

The threats, originating from a Facebook post, were widely shared on various other social media platforms. In the alarming post, Jones allegedly wrote, "Today I called off work for 4 days because I think I want to do something that will make people band together after I’m done. What if I do some like some of these white kids be doing y’all and just commit a mass massacre of people at plaza."

He further stated his willingness to take his own life “with a smile on my face,” when police responded, as per Al.

Deandre Jones charged with terrorist threats

Following the preservation of these disturbing social media posts by officers, an investigation was promptly launched, leading to the issuance of a warrant for Jones's arrest on Monday. The Birmingham Police Department's Crime Reduction Team successfully took him into custody on Wednesday.

Jones faces charges of making a terrorist threat and is currently held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $15,000 bond. Expressing gratitude to the business for promptly reporting the threat and the community for its responsiveness, Officer Truman Fitzgerald emphasized the Birmingham Police Department's commitment to treating such threats with the utmost seriousness.

He stated, "I think the Birmingham Police Department speaks for all law enforcement agencies when we say we’re not going to take threats like that lightly."
