WASHINGTON, DC: Over the weekend, longtime Republican strategist Karl Rove delivered sobering news to Donald Trump and his supporters on Fox News, suggesting a shift in polls since the former president's recent hush money conviction.

Ahead of the May 31 conviction, polls indicated that 16% to 24% of Trump supporters would reassess whom to vote for in the 2024 election if the MAGA leader was found guilty.

Karl Rove warns Donald Trump's lead over Joe Biden may soon disappear entirely

During his Fox News appearance on Saturday, June 22, Rove said, "Take a look at the evidence," explaining that polling data shows Trump is losing ground to President Joe Biden following his conviction.

Consequently, Trump's slight lead over Biden, as reflected on RealClearPolitics and other poll aggregators, has been diminishing. Rove also warned that the former president's lead may soon disappear entirely.

"We’re likely to see that lead dissipate because the most recent polls have had Biden ahead," claimed Rove as he used his whiteboard to show poll results since Trump's conviction, as per Mediaite

A significant shift in voter sentiment could sway the upcoming election, according to Rove, a key figure in George W Bush's presidential campaigns.

He further remarked, "The movement is among independents," adding, "And they have moved, in recent polls, roughly 9 points towards Biden."

Previously, 21% of independents stated they would be less inclined to vote for Trump if he was found guilty in the hush money trial, as pointed out by Rove.

Trump maintained his lead over Biden in most, but not all, pre-verdict surveys. Post-verdict, pollsters are divided on whether the conviction has affected his standing in the polls.

However, Patrick Murray, director of Monmouth University's Polling Institute, believes there has been "absolutely no movement whatsoever."

Karl Rove's remarks on Donald Trump's conviction affecting polls sparks debate

Rove's sobering news to Trump prompted mixed reactions from netizens

One expressed, "Given his laughably unfit opponent, a sensible person would expect Biden to be far ahead in the polls, but we need to keep in mind that it's only June, much too early for polls to have any significance. I'll start paying attention in August."

Another added, "Dumps base is worthless, no matter what party you’re with, the whole of American voters are not stupid! Dump thinks they are and plays to it! You’re going DOWN dump!"

"We'll be reminded of Trump's conviction, of course, when he is sentenced on Jul 11. If it's a light sentence, due to the circumstances of Trump being a presidential candidate, he'll try to spin it as a sign that his case wasn't all that serious and, of course, his base will buy that but, unfortunately for Trump, I don't think that many independents will buy Trump's spin," shared a person.

Someone else said, "Karl Rove's history on election analysis should lead to skepticism. The Biden campaign needs to keep the pressure on all the way to election day if the country is to be spared the chaos and ruin that Trump will bring if he's elected."

"But, but, but, it was supposed to increase his support! Waah!" stated an individual, mocking Trump.

"Rove forgot one other point: as we get closer to November, more people start paying attention. The polls so far have been reflective of the most engaged voters, not the general electorate," pointed out one more.

Another comment read, "As an independent voter, Trump's loss can't happen soon enough. The obstructionist RINOs and the entire Trump cult are damaging this nation in a way that is going to be seen and felt for years."

They added, "The only good that I can see coming out of any of this are greater protections for voting Americans, an end to gerrymandering, and the death of voter suppression. And hopefully a complete overhaul of the Supreme Court."
