LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA:  Gordon Ramsay has opened up about the terrifying bike accident he endured earlier this summer.

The 57-year-old celebrity chef and TV host shared the details of the incident in a new interview with 'Men's Health', recounting how he got involved in the accident on Saturday, June 15.

What caused Gordon Ramsay’s bike accident?

Gordon Ramsay, known for his passion for cycling, was riding down a hill when a "crater-like pothole" caused a serious mishap, leaving him with multiple injuries and an important lesson to share.

During the interview, Ramsay explained that his front wheel hit a large pothole, causing him to lose control. His bike "spun 180 degrees" and he was thrown off.

Reflecting on the incident, Ramsay admitted to a mistake he made afterward.

Rather than stopping, he attempted to fix the chain and keep riding. He tried to fix the chain and continued riding. It wasn’t until later that he realized the full extent of the damage when he noticed his helmet had split.

Seeing the helmet's condition likely saved his life. He recalled the aftermath of the fall, saying, "I honestly thought I was going to pass out," Gordon Ramsay stated.

His vision blurred and blood was everywhere. Ramsay contacted his assistant, Justin Mandel, who called an ambulance that took him to the hospital. Fortunately, CT scans showed that he had no broken bones.

How has Gordon Ramsay been recovering after the accident?

Since the accident, Gordon Ramsay has been undergoing daily lymphatic drainage massages and physiotherapy to manage the swelling.

Simple tasks became incredibly difficult during his recovery. Ramsay humorously described his frustration, sharing, "I couldn’t even put my f*****g socks and pants on."

His assistant had to help him dress in the morning, which Ramsay found embarrassing. "I felt like a f*****g 95-year-old man. Asking a 30-year-old kid to put my f*****g underpants on was embarrassing," Gordon Ramsay recalled.

What message does Gordon Ramsay have about helmet safety?

On June 15, shortly after the accident, Gordon Ramsay shared a video on Instagram urging his followers to wear helmets.

He went on to describe the accident, saying, "This week, unfortunately, I had a really bad accident, and it really shook me."

Ramsay credited the trauma surgeons, doctors, and nurses at the hospital for their excellent care, but stressed the importance of helmet safety.

"Honestly, you’ve got to wear a helmet," Ramsay said. He called helmets "crucial," adding, "I don’t care how short the journey is."

In the video, Ramsay lifted his shirt to show a massive bruise saying he was lucky to be alive.

"I’m lucky to be standing here." For the caption of his Instagram post, he wrote, "I’m thankful for all the doctors, nurses, and staff at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London who looked after me and checked me out, but most thankful for my helmet that saved my life."
