DES MOINES, IOWA: In a heated exchange during Wednesday night's GOP debate in Des Moines, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley clashed over the question of whether the US should continue funding the war in Ukraine.

DeSantis contended that Haley, whom he labeled a “globalist,” backed the use of taxpayer dollars to fund "salaries for Ukrainian government bureaucrats" and "paid pensions for Ukrainian retirees."

However, Haley vehemently denied these claims, but the internet lauded DeSantis for “smoking” her during the debate.

Ron DeSantis roasts Nikki Haley for supporting Ukraine funding

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley tore down each other on the debate stage over Ukraine funding.

While DeSantis accused Haley of wanting endless funding, the latter charged the governor saying he can’t be trusted on funding matters because he blew his $150 million donated to his campaign.

DeSantis labeled Haley a “globalist” who supports funding “salaries for Ukrainian government bureaucrats” and “paid pensions for Ukrainian retirees” with taxpayer dollars.

DeSantis roasted Haley and won the heart of the internet with his statement, “You can take the ambassador out of the United Nations, but you can't take the United Nations out of the ambassador.”

In response to DeSantis' accusations, Haley asserted that there is no need to “choose when it comes to national security.”

She highlighted that funding for Ukraine constitutes only a small fraction of the defense budget and suggested that DeSantis can’t be trusted with math.

Haley further criticized DeSantis' financial management, pointing to the substantial amount spent on his campaign, saying, "The best way to judge a candidate is to see how they've run their campaign, he blew through $150 million. I don't know how you do that."
