Harris branded 'flip-flop' for distancing herself from Biden policies as well as her own progressive stands

Harris also appears to be rejecting many of her own progressive initiatives that she promoted during her unsuccessful 2020 presidential campaign

WASHINGTON, DC: Vice President Kamala Harris is making an effort to “distance” herself from President Joe Biden’s track record, while also renouncing the far-left policies she previously supported, according to the New York Post.

The outcome, many experts believe, is a Democratic presidential campaign focused solely on style rather than substance since VP Harris took over the party’s leadership from President Biden last month.

Democratic campaign strategists caution that she runs the risk of voters catching on to her tactic and realizing that she is only promoting cynical political opportunism.

“It’s a marketing strategy that is TV-esque," remarked a senior Democratic aide. “With such a short timeline now, policy matters less than personality.”

“She’s going to almost exclusively look at a voter like a consumer — and sell, sell, sell!” the aide commented.

“Do I think that’s a long-term strategy? No,” the aide admitted. “But I think the plan is win and figure it out.”

What did other Democratic party aides say regarding Kamala Harris’ campaign strategy so far?

Another Democratic campaign operative informed the Post on Wednesday that Kamala Harris was wisely distancing herself from President Biden's economic policies due to his “horrible” polling numbers and is prepared to abandon any administration talking points that lack “strong” public support.

Simultaneously, the 59-year-old Democratic presidential nominee also appears to be rejecting many of her own progressive initiatives that she promoted during her unsuccessful 2020 presidential campaign, including support for Medicare for All, the ban on fracking, and the legalization of illegal immigration.

Critics from both sides of the party criticized Kamala Harris four years ago - with the Biden campaign particularly mocking her Medicare position as a "have-it-every-which-way" plan, and aides for Democratic socialist Sen Bernie Sanders (I-Vt) criticizing her policy stances as being "cobbled together to address various poll numbers," as reported by Politico.

She is now trying to enhance her moderate credentials by directly addressing inflation and the high cost of goods, while also adopting former President Trump’s commitment to not tax tips for service and hospitality workers in crucial battleground states such as Nevada.

“As far as Harris distancing from Biden, she was going to do that,” the campaign operative mentioned, noting that Democrats have been invigorated by the opportunity to redefine the 2024 race.

"It wasn't called Harrisflation," the operative added, referring to the "Bidenflation" term that Republicans have associated with the 81-year-old POTUS as the United States experienced a 40-year high in consumer prices in 2022.

Meanwhile, the criticism she has faced for appearing indifferent on policy and avoiding major media interviews for nearly a month after President Biden's exit has been deliberate on her part, according to the senior Democratic aide, providing her with an opportunity "to get her story straight later."

Vice President Kamala Harris's advisors revealed to Axios on Wednesday that the Democratic presidential candidate, who became the presumptive nominee solely by winning over party leaders, is unafraid to embrace policy reversals.

Republican vice-presidential candidate JD Vance told reporters on Wednesday that VP Harris’ revamped campaign, emphasizing "joy" and "fun," was just as inauthentic as the dances she performed at campaign events.

“Everything about her campaign is fake,” the Ohio senator stated.

On Friday, she plans to address "corporate price-gouging" and talk about her strategies to reduce the costs of food, housing, and healthcare for the middle class during a scheduled campaign rally in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Harris is also reportedly reshaping her public image around her relatively modest California origins - the daughter of a working single mother - in an attempt to win over voters, asserting that her agenda is to “win the future.”

A small majority of voters trust Harris on economic matters over Donald Trump, according to a recent survey by the Financial Times, while a larger majority believe they will be in better financial shape under the former president.

Nonetheless, some of the Biden economic agenda is expected to be associated with Harris.

White House Press Secretary Karine-Jean Pierre confirmed during the daily press briefing that the record was “both” of theirs.

“I’m not going to get into polling,” she said. “What I will tell you is Bidenomics has been something that both the president and the vice president has worked on.”

A Democratic operative who spoke with the aforementioned outlet noted that some of the economic messaging points may be “easier to defend,” but that “Biden’s immigration record will stick to her.”

“It’s easier to defend Biden’s record on the economy,” the operative explained. “You can point to jobs, you can point to the stock market, lowering the costs of drugs. … Immigration is much more difficult.”

Another obstacle could be her previous pledges to phase out gas-powered vehicles by 2035, but she has indicated to certain energy trade groups in Pennsylvania that she does not intend to eliminate the domestic gas and oil industry, according to Reuters.

Chet Thompson, the president of the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers, informed the outlet that they would still remain cautious.

“Until the vice president says otherwise, we have to believe she still stands for everything that was in her 2019 policy plan and for every policy she cosponsored as a senator,” he mentioned.

Harris and Biden are scheduled to make an appearance in Prince George’s County, Maryland, for an event highlighting their administration’s efforts to reduce costs - their first joint appearance since Biden dropped out.
