SIOUX CENTER, IOWA: During a campaign rally in Sioux Center, Iowa, former President Donald Trump launched a pointed attack on Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina, who has emerged as a top contender for the Republican presidential nomination.

Trump accused Haley of being "in the pocket" of "establishment donors," casting her as the preferred candidate of Wall Street and tech industry elites rather than grassroots conservatives, as per a report from The New York Times.

Notably, Haley has received significant financial support from prominent donors such as Reid Hoffman, the co-founder of LinkedIn and a major Democratic donor.

This development has drawn criticism from some conservative voices, including Trump, who view her as too closely aligned with the political establishment.

What did Trump say about Nikki Haley during his campaign speech?

Referring to Reid Hoffman as a “slob” Trump said, “One of the biggest donors to Nikki Haley's campaign is this slob known as Reed Hoffman. A big slob. I can't use the word fat, so I won't. They'll criticize me if I say fat. You're not allowed to use fat, so I will not call him a fat slob. I'll just call him a slob. You're allowed to. But a real slob.”

The 77-year-old GOP presidential frontrunner remarked, “You've got to look at a picture of this guy. But he's a rich guy. He supports Crooked… Think of it. He supports all of these crooked people, but he also supports Haley. Can you believe it? You know why? Because they don't want to run against Trump.”

Haley, who served as the former United Nations ambassador under Trump’s administration found no respite in the former President’s campaign speeches in Iowa as he rallied his ever-ardent supporters in the Hawkeye state against her by calling her a “globalist.”

Trump said, “Nikki Haley has been in the pocket of the open borders, establishment donors her entire career and she’s a globalist, you know, she likes the globe. I like America First.”

The former POTUS admonished her and his other GOP presidential opponents by adding, “Establishment losers and sellouts lagging far behind us in the Republican primary can’t be trusted on taxes or trade or anything else. They’re globalists, and they always will be.”

Trump also referenced Haley's recent political blunders, particularly her response in New Hampshire last week to a question about the origins of the Civil War where her answer omitted any reference to slavery.

“She does not have what it takes,” Trump remarked.

Nachama Soloveichik, a spokeswoman for Nikki Haley’s campaign responded, “If Trump feels so strongly about his false attacks, he should stop hiding and defend them on the debate stage in Des Moines.”

She further added that Trump “probably doesn’t remember that Nikki Haley passed one of the toughest anti-illegal immigration laws in the country in 2011 because he was still a New York City liberal.”

Trump upped the ante when it comes to scrutinizing Haley after her improved standing in the GOP presidential race over the past few months.

While Trump's sharpest retorts were previously reserved for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, through the latter half of 2023, Haley’s campaign was successful in garnering support which is reflected in her polling numbers, per Real Clear Politics.

However, it is noteworthy that Trump continues to lead both candidates by wide margins in state and national polls.

Trump argues that his "Make America Great Again" movement has rescued the Republican Party from an elite political class intent on regaining influence by keeping him out of office.

He addressed the hundreds of attendees at his campaign event on Friday saying that he remains steadfast in his determination to prevent this elite class from regaining power.

"There's no chance we're going to let them claw their way back to power," the former POTUS claimed.
