WASHINGTON, DC: Conservative commentator and Federalist CEO Sean Davis slammed President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans, warning them to “wake up” ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

Davis accused GOP leaders of lacking strategy, accomplishments, and vision, as Trump faces growing criticism for dismissing voters’ concerns about affordability during the record-breaking 40-day government shutdown.

Sean Davis calls out Trump in a scathing post on X

Sean Davis posted a sharp criticism of Donald Trump and congressional Republicans on X. He opened his post by questioning GOP leadership, writing, “I don’t know who is advising congressional Republicans on strategy right now, but it is whoever it is has an IQ barely approaching room temperature.”

Davis slammed Republicans for having no accomplishments, plans, or vision, asking, “Republicans right now have no accomplishments, no plans, and no vision. Why on earth would anyone be excited to go vote for them 12 months right now?”

He urged, "Trump needs to ditch the foreign policy crap and focus all his attention on the domestic economy, which is still not working for the majority of people. Right now he looks weak and rudderless. Be mad all you want, but it’s the truth."

Sean Davis voices concerns over 'newly minted college grads'

Sean Davis also highlighted the struggles facing young Americans, saying, “Newly minted college grads can’t find work and are saddled with debt. Where is their path to the American dream right now? Who is giving them a vision of a future worth fighting for?”

Davis warned, “You cannot have a viable country or future when half your country and all its young people are locked out of the economy and locked out of ever owning a home or much of anything beyond next month’s streaming subscription.”

He questioned whether anyone in Washington cared and concluded with a warning to the GOP: “Does anyone in Washington care about this? Anyone at all? Republicans had better wake up, because right now their nightmare is only beginning if they don’t start making massive changes.”

Sean Davis known for consistently defending Trump

Sean Davis, who also served as CFO of the conservative Daily Caller, has been a strong supporter of Donald Trump and the MAGA movement in recent years. However, he criticized both the president and congressional Republicans in his recent post on X. The remarks are particularly notable because Davis has regularly appeared on Fox News to promote pro-MAGA views, and his outlet, The Federalist, has consistently defended Trump.

Trump has frequently dismissed voters’ concerns about affordability, including the rising costs of health care, groceries, and other everyday expenses. Last week, he called the issue a “con” invented by Democrats, saying, “I don’t wanna hear about affordability.”

Meanwhile, the government has endured a record-breaking 40-day shutdown over affordable health care, pausing food assistance for 42 million Americans and leaving federal workers without pay.

Recently, Trump announced that the shutdown is nearing its end. Speaking to reporters, he said, “It looks like we're getting close to the shutdown ending. Will never agree to give. Any substantial money or any money.”

He added, “Really, personal and illegal are coming to our country, and I think the Democrats understand that. Looks like we're getting close to the shutdown ending. Thank you very much."
