Helen Mirren raises eyebrows by bizarrely claiming it’s sad Kurt Cobain died 'before GPS was invented'
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON: Helen Mirren recently paid a surprising tribute to the late Kurt Cobain while discussing the challenges of aging in an uncommonly candid interview.
During the 'Brave New World' podcast with Lord Evgeny Lebedev, the 79-year-old actress remarked that it was sad Kurt Cobain died before "GPS was invented."
She went on to reflect on various topics, including death, fashion, and her experiences in church, despite being an atheist.

Helen Mirren expressed sadness over Kurt Cobain’s untimely death, lamenting that the musician, who tragically took his life at 27 in his home on Lake Washington Boulevard in Seattle, Washington, "never saw GPS."

"You lose people along the way," Helen explained.

Fans think Helen Mirren 'tries hard to be trendy'
Viewers shared their opinions openly, voicing their discomfort with Helen Mirren's comments.

Another viewer shared, "She's always given off a 'holier-than-thou' attitude to me. Never been able to warm to her."
One viewer pointed out, "Helen does not have both oars in the water."
A follower observed, "She tries so hard to be trendy."
One comment stated, "Adore Helen but she doesn't come off well in this interview."
The only confusing comment is the linking of Kurt to GPS and I think she was just trying a misguided attempt to be humorous. She mentions “losing “ Kurt and GPS to help show where she is in the same sentence…

Moving on to more contemporary subjects, Helen Mirren shared her views on the evolution of men's fashion, crediting figures like Harry Styles and Timothee Chalamet for redefining male wardrobes.
"When you see those guys on the red carpet or even in normal, everyday life, they're really breaking the boundaries of what used to be a male uniform," Mirren noted, acknowledging how men are challenging traditional fashion norms.
She also credited the black community for influencing these changes, praising their imaginative approach to style.
"I always find black people dress so imaginatively and they don’t seem to be necessarily constrained by formality or convention," she said.

Helen Mirren embraces theatricality of churches despite being atheist
Despite being a nonbeliever, Helen Mirren openly shared her fondness for the ritual of attending church.
Although an atheist, she admitted to appreciating the theatricality of religious spaces.
"My husband always laughs at me when I go into a church and I always cross myself and genuflect and take the holy water because I just love the theatre of churches," she joked.
Mirren has been married to Taylor Hackford since 1997.
Mirren went on to explain how the tangible aspects of religious spaces deeply move her.
"As a nonbeliever, I am mesmerized by the power of belief. And when you sit in a church, you're surrounded by the power physically. The people who made the wooden pews, you're sitting on the people who painted the beautiful frescoes, the statuary, the amazing architecture of the ceiling. All of that was made possibly by people who believe," she stated.
This isn't the first time Mirren has spoken about religion.
