WASHINGTON, DC: Asa Hutchinson, a former Republican contender for president, declared on Monday, March 18, that he will not support Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election, according to a USA Today op-ed.

The ex-governor of Arkansas stated, "I have not endorsed Donald Trump for president, and I will not do so. This is a costly and difficult position to take."

Hutchinson notably accused Trump of reshaping the GOP according to his own persona and prioritizing personal ego over the collective welfare. He criticized GOP leaders and officials for obediently following Trump's lead without question, as per the New York Post.

The anticipated 2024 presidential nominee of the party faced criticism from a former GOP presidential candidate for endorsing policies deemed contradictory to conservative principles, including "the age-old concept of economic protectionism" and "renouncing NATO."

Hutchinson wrote, "I get asked a lot if I believe Trump is a threat to our democracy. I am not good at predicting the future, but we can learn from history and we should take heed when politicians tell us what they are going to do."

Moreover, despite having voted for Trump in both the 2016 and 2020 elections, he said that the 45th president had changed his mind about ever receiving his support after reading Liz Cheney's book and learning of the Justice Department's indictment on January 6.

Hutchinson added, "Another important point to make is that I also will not vote for President Joe Biden. Biden’s weak border policies, his poor economic record, and his slow growth energy policy do not justify reelection."

Hutchinson's bid for the presidency notably fell short. Although he participated in the initial GOP primary debate in August of last year, he did not receive invitations to subsequent debates.

Additionally, after garnering only 191 votes in the Iowa Republican primary, Hutchinson withdrew from the race in January. Similarly, former Vice President Mike Pence announced last week that he would neither endorse Trump in 2024 nor vote for Biden.
