Tim Walz 'BREAKING' meme sweeps across social media platforms

It all began with Midwestern dad jokes and soon evolved into direct comparisons between Tim Walz and other political figures like JD Vance.

But it’s the "BREAKING" meme that has truly captured the imagination of netizens. These memes fabricate sensationalized news headlines, humorously accusing Walz of everything from trivial everyday actions to more absurd scenarios.

For instance, on X (formerly Twitter), a person wrote, "BREAKING: Self described 'Disney Dad', Tim Walz spotted at Universal Studios."

Another said, "BREAKING: Tim Walz tells his children 'Great job, champ' after their sports games even when they did not in fact win a championship."

One more post read, "BREAKING: Tim Walz was seen saying 'Bless you' after someone sneezed, despite having no clerical authority to bestow blessings. When will the charade end?"

Another person wrote, "BREAKING: Tim Walz claims that he’ll 'sleep when I’m dead.' Scientists confirm you’re not actually sleeping when you’re dead."

"BREAKING: Tim Walz said he was going to start his homework. However, he scrolled thru instagram reels for 17 more minutes," wrote an individual, with one more jesting, "BREAKING: While attending a party in 2011, Tim Walz said 'well, it's about time to head out' but stayed for 45 more minutes."

Another jokingly wrote, "BREAKING: Tim Walz once told a child he’d 'got [her] nose,' when it was, in fact, just his thumb," and a netizen added, "BREAKING Tim Walz claims we’ll be there in 5 minutes but he said that 5 minutes ago."

Tim Walz's 'Tampon Tim' moniker gains traction among certain conservative circles

While the "BREAKING" meme remains largely in good humor, a derogatory moniker associated with Tim Walz has stirred more controversy. Republican critics have dubbed him "Tampon Tim," a nickname that has gained traction among certain conservative circles.

It stems from a law that Walz signed in 2023, mandating that public schools in Minnesota provide free menstrual products, including tampons and pads, to students in grades 4 through 12, according to NPR.

The law, a result of years of advocacy by students and their supporters, was seen as a progressive step forward in ensuring menstrual equity in schools. The state allocates approximately $2 per student to maintain the supply of these products throughout the school year.

Minnesota is now one of 28 states that have implemented similar laws aimed at providing students with access to period products.

Despite the law's popularity and the broad support for menstrual equity, some Republicans have taken issue with the bill's inclusive language.

The legislation states that menstrual products must be available "to all menstruating students in restrooms regularly used by students," a phrase that acknowledges that not all people who menstruate are women and not all women menstruate.

This inclusivity, however, has become a point of contention among some conservative figures, who see it as an opportunity to criticize Walz.
