Hunter Biden trial: Here's where first son could spend his 25 years if sentenced to prison term
WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden could get a 25-year prison sentence after being found guilty of all three felonies on the acquisition of a gun, according to Mirror.
After a two-day jury deliberation that lasted only three hours, Hunter Biden looked straight ahead and appeared unmoved. Before leaving the courthouse with his wife, Melissa, he hugged his lawyers, gave a faint grin, and kissed his wife. Nonetheless, it's unclear if the Judge will hand him a prison sentence as a first-time offender. Here are the locations where Hunter Biden might spend his time if sentenced to a prison term.
Howard R Young Correctional Institution
Howard R Young, a veteran of the Department for 33 years, died in 2001 after battling cancer. He is commemorated at the Howard R Young Correctional Institution in Delaware. Young was the inaugural warden of the jail when it was inaugurated in 1982.
The website mentions that the initial structure, presently referred to as the West Wing, was constructed to accommodate 360 prisoners who were either too sick to post bail or were in the process of awaiting trial or sentencing. The East Wing, a recent expansion, was officially opened in 1992. This construction effort provided an additional 480 beds for prisoners.
Should Hunter Biden find himself incarcerated, this location—located in Wilmington, Delaware—could be the most suitable choice, as the other two are located further from the major city.
On November 8, 2018, an inmate named Luis Cabrera died inside the walls of the correctional institution from a perforated ulcer, a day after his 49th birthday, according to WDEL. Steve Hampton, a Dover lawyer, filed the case on July 9, 2019, on behalf of Stephanie, Cabrera's surviving wife and Ashley, his daughter.
James T Vaughn Correctional Centre
The biggest adult male prison in the state, The Correctional Centre, is located close to Smyrna, Delaware. There are about 2,500 minimal, medium, and maximum security inmates housed there. It also holds prisoners who have been given the death penalty. The JTVCC is where executions take place.
Built in 1971, it features razor wire around the structure and can hold up to 2,600 prisoners. For the 600 high-security cells, six more housing units totaling 888 new beds have been constructed. According to the website, 300 of the cells feature a single bed, the remaining 300 are double-bunked unless they are disability accessible, in which case the cell is single-bunked.
In 2017, 16 prisoners were charged with first-degree murder by Delaware authorities in connection with the February 2017 insurrection at Vaughn Correctional Center, which resulted in an 18-hour siege that claimed the life of correctional officer Lt Steven Floyd, according to Delaware online.
Sussex Correctional Institution
Situated in Georgetown, Delaware, this prison was established in 1931 and is among the oldest in the United States. It can accommodate offenders requiring high, medium, and minimal security.
Between April 1997 and April 2000, the all-male jail had an expansion that resulted in the addition of 760 beds, bringing its total capacity to 1,109 beds. The institution could now accommodate 1,206 people overall thanks to the enlargement.
Along with a range of other classes and activities, it offers prisoners access to vocational training, education, job assignments, spiritual and religious possibilities, and more.
The Road to Recovery (R2R) therapy program, a therapeutic community model that develops individualized treatment programs depending on the requirements of the convicts, is also offered at this institution.
