'I literally fell apart': Julie Chrisley details news of possible tumor in a prison letter to Savannah
ATLANTA, GEORGIA: Savannah Chrisley opened up about a heartbreaking letter from her mother Julie Chrisley who is serving time in prison for financial crimes.
The letter, which Savannah read on her podcast 'Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley', described how Julie learned she might have a tumor while being away from her husband Todd Chrisley.
Julie Chrisley had higher levels of HCG
Julie, who had battled breast cancer in 2012 and underwent a double mastectomy and hysterectomy, wrote that she was called to see a doctor in prison.
She expected it to be a routine gynecology check-up, but instead, she was handed over shocking details.
"'I was called out to the doctor,'" Savannah read from Julie's letter on March 5.
"'I walked in thinking it was gynecology. I sat down with the doctor and she proceeds to tell me that my HCG level was high—10.2,'" Julie Chrisley detailed in the letter.
“This is a pregnancy hormone,” Savannah quoted her mother's letter which further wrote, “It should not be that high. If it were a little higher, I would test positive on a pregnancy test."
"Since that’s not a possibility, it could be a sign of a tumor," she emphasized in the letter to her daughter.
Julie Chrisley broke down in tears after learning about the test results in prison
The test results shattered Julie who felt alone and scared without her husband Todd, who is also in prison in a different state, and questioned herself, "How can this be happening?"
She wrote that she “literally fell apart” and did not tell anyone about her situation but decided, "I'm going to have blood work redone and get a scan."
Expressing her feelings, she wrote to Savannah, “I’m so scared. I just want my husband. I don’t know if I can do this without him."
Savannah Chrisley's frustration with the prison system
Savannah expressed her anger and disappointment with the prison’s healthcare system on her podcast.
She said that they did not inform her or her family about her mother's condition and that they did not care about her well-being.
"They tell your family absolutely nothing," she said, adding “I wasn’t notified of any of this. They don’t care. If my mom were to go to the hospital, I would not know.”
