‘I’m petrified of my son’: Rob Reiner shared fears about Nick with guest at Conan O’Brien’s party
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Rob Reiner reportedly revealed a shocking truth about his son, Nick Reiner, only moments before he and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were discovered dead in their Brentwood residence.
Friends and partygoers said Rob expressed fear about his son’s unpredictable actions at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party the night before the fatal incident.
Rob Reiner voiced fear of son at party
One of the A-listers in attendance at the late director’s memorial service on Monday revealed the final words Rob Reiner allegedly spoke at the party, Daily Mail reported.
“I’m petrified of [Nick]. I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I’m afraid of my son. I think my own son can hurt me,” the unnamed celebrity recalled Rob saying, according to a source who was present at the funeral service. The service was held at comedian Albert Brooks’ mansion in Los Angeles.
Witnesses at the party also recalled unusual behavior from Nick Reiner, 32, who allegedly asked unsettling questions and had a loud confrontation with his parents before leaving the event. Representatives for Rob have not responded to repeated requests for comment.
Reports detail Nick Reiner’s erratic behavior before deaths
A source told The Post that at O’Brien’s Christmas party on December 13, a verbal altercation between Rob and Michele Reiner and their son Nick was the incident that made him “freak out,” leading to a major blow-up.
In the hours before their tragic deaths, the couple was reportedly involved in another dispute with Nick.
“They had had an argument at Conan’s holiday party, and Rob had been telling people that they’re scared for Nick and scared that his mental state was deteriorating,” a lifelong friend of the family told the outlet.
A close family friend also said that the couple had grown increasingly worried about their son’s mental state and had shared those concerns with others at the party.
“Nick was freaking everyone out, acting crazy, kept asking people if they were famous,” an insider previously told PEOPLE. Meanwhile, another source alleged to Us Weekly that Nick behaved ‘creepily’ at the upscale gathering.
On Wednesday, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner released the official autopsy results for Rob and Michele Reiner, stating that the causes of death were "multiple sharp force injuries" and ruling the parents’ deaths a homicide.
Nick is alleged to have stabbed his parents to death "in approximately the early morning hours" of Sunday, December 14. After the incident, he reportedly left the residence but was apprehended later that night and has since been indicted on two counts of first-degree murder.
Following the deaths of his parents, Nick appeared in court for the first time on Wednesday. His arraignment has been scheduled for January 7, 2026.
