Inside the fabulous lives of Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff after DC: From their $5.3M pad to celeb pals
WASHINGTON, DC: Kamala Harris continues to have a lavish lifestyle with her husband Doug Emhoff even after the end of her term as the Vice President of the United States, Nicki Swift reported on Wednesday, January 29.
Though she failed to move into the White House in January after being defeated in the general election last year by Donald Trump, Harris is used to the high-profile lifestyle.
Net worth of Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff
As a hotshot attorney, Kamala Harris worked her way up to become the San Francisco District Attorney, followed by the Attorney General of California. On the other hand, Doug Emhoff was a successful entertainment lawyer with a roster of high-profile clients before becoming the second gentleman.
As such, their net worth is estimated to be around $8 million. Harris received a relatively modest salary as the Vice President since a 2019 budget freeze resulted in a pay cap of $235,100. However, the publication shared that money was never a political motivator for Harris.
Moving back to their expansive California residence
After Donald Trump took charge of the federal administration on January 20, Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff vacated the official residence of the Vice President at the Number One Observatory Circle in northwestern Washington for her successor JD Vance, and his family.
However, they did not have to spend time house hunting, as they had their $5.3 million home in Brentwood, California to move back to. The 3,500-square-foot property has four bedrooms, five bathrooms, and a pool.
According to Page Six, Emhoff was also caught checking out a $20,000-a-month three-bedroom condo on the Upper West Side in early January 2025.
Kamala Harris' closet of designer wears
While Kamala Harris kept her fashion simple and monochromatic during her time in Office, she has twice been on the cover of Vogue magazine and reportedly owns an expansive closet full of designer duds.
Only rarely are individuals summoned for acts of national rescue, but in July, Vice President @KamalaHarris received one of those calls. With President Joe Biden’s decision to end his reelection campaign, the world looked to Harris with hopes and doubts. https://t.co/NtOIMM2L1R pic.twitter.com/4u1mbmDJ6i

Some of the items in Harris' collection include the $3,630 Pamella Roland sleeveless sequin-stripe gown she wore to the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in 2015 and the $3,950 Monique Lhuillier sheath dress she wore to the 45th NAACP Image Awards in 2014.
Even her regular suits come at a hefty price tag, such as the $2,890 Michael Kors Collection beige trench and $3,190 Carolina Herrera wide lapel coat.
Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff's luxury vacation
Following her defeat in the November 4 general election, Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff took a six-night vacation by flying over to the Aloha State. According to the Daily Mail, they paid $1,300 a night to stay in a sprawling $7 million, 5,200 square feet five-bedroom oceanfront home in Kamuela for the holiday.
The White House Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre had told reporters at the time, "The vice president has taken time off to go spend time with her family. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I think she deserves some time to be with her family and to have some downtime. She has worked very hard over the last four years, and her taking a couple of days to be with her family — good for her."
Support of celebrity friends
Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff are notable as much at home among the stars in Hollywood as they are among the bureaucrats in Washington DC.
As an entertainment lawyer, Emhoff represented a wide range of high-profile clients, from an Oscar-winning director to reality television stars to the Taco Bell Chihuahua.
As for Harris, being California's AG gave her the perk of having almost influential individuals on speed dial. Her rapport with the celebs was highlighted by the number of stars who endorsed her for President in 2024.
The A-listers who declared for Harris included Beyonce, Reese Witherspoon, Will Ferrell, Alanis Morissette, Katy Perry, Oprah Winfrey, Eminem, and Taylor Swift, among others.
