WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Adam Schiff retaliated tactfully against Rep Katie Porter for claiming, following her loss, that their intense California Senate contest was rigged.

Many Democrats retaliated against Porter after she said she was facing "an onslaught of billionaires spending millions to rig this election" and became enraged about her defeat.

Schiff told NBC’s 'Meet the Press' on Sunday, March 10, "I have nothing but respect for my colleagues. That term rigged though, is a very loaded term in the era of Trump. It connotes fraud or ballot stuffing — false claims like those [from] Donald Trump."

Pointing to the backlash Porter faced, Schiff added, "What’s remarkable is Democrats very quickly rallied to say, ‘No, we don’t use that language, the election was legitimate."

Schiff referenced to how Republicans have responded to similar allegations made by former President Donald Trump while talking about the Democratic critique of Porter's use of the word 'rig'.

Porter has defended herself in the past, saying that she wasn't saying the election was rigged but rather that foreign powers corruptly manipulated it.

She said, "‘Rigged’ means manipulated by dishonest means. A few billionaires spent $10 million+ on attack ads against me, including an ad rated ‘false’ by an independent fact checker."

She added, "That is [a] dishonest means to manipulate an outcome. I said ‘rigged by billionaires’ and our politics are—in fact— manipulated by big dark money. Defending democracy means calling that out."

Based on the most recent tally, Schiff defeated his Democratic opponent with 32.51% support, followed by Republican Steve Garvey with 32.05%, Porter at 14.83%, and Rep Barbara Lee at 8.59%. Schiff's edge over Porter was almost 960,000 votes.

The congressman recalled that Porter called him following her defeat and was rather 'gracious', despite her public complaints.

"She congratulated me which I certainly viewed as a concession and she was very gracious in her message to me. We’re in a tough business, but her call could not have been more gracious," Schiff said.

Internet trolls Adam Schiff for slamming Katie Porter

People on the Internet took a jibe at Adam Schiff as he retaliated tactfully against Rep Katie Porter for claiming that their intense California Senate contest was rigged.

A user on X wrote, "Schiff is a disgraced liar with Zero credibility."

Another added, "Well if anyone know anything about rigging an election it’s Adam Schiff."

A user also mentioned, "Hope the Garv takes him out. He should be in jail, not in the Senate."

A user also wrote, "Everyone knows CA is rigged. Schiff and Pelosi have a lifetime pass.

Another stated, "Schiff shouldn’t gloat. California is rigged galore."
