PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: In a surprising turn of events, former Hawaii Democratic Representative Tulsi Gabbard expressed her willingness to serve as former President Donald Trump's running mate if given the opportunity to join the Republican ticket for the upcoming November elections.

Gabbard, who had previously run for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, made these remarks during an appearance on the 'Triggered' podcast hosted by Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr.

Gabbard's eagerness to serve

"I would be honored to serve my country in that way," Gabbard stated, expressing her eagerness to work alongside Trump.

"I'd be honored to actually be in a position to help President Trump execute his policies...bringing the experience that I have had of being on the front lines of many of these battles and actually understanding what we're up against."

“And so whether you’re talking about securing the border, reducing inflation, improving our economy, stopping these Democrats or ― and establishment Republicans ― stopping these warmongers from continuing to push us closer and closer to war, not just in one country, but in multiple regions across the world,” she continued.

"These are things, if I had the opportunity and privilege of being able to serve and support President Trump in actually executing these policies, I’d be honored to do so.”

While Trump has yet to announce his running mate for the upcoming race against President Biden, speculation has been rampant regarding his choice.

Despite not being mentioned as a top contender in recent reports, Gabbard met with the former president in February regarding Defense Department personnel and foreign policy.

A former rising star within the Democratic Party, Gabbard represented Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District from 2013 to 2021 and served as vice chair of the Democratic National Committee from 2013 to 2016. However, her trajectory within the party shifted as she resigned from her DNC position to endorse Senator Bernie Sanders' presidential bid in 2016.

Departure from Democratic Party

Gabbard's own bid for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination was short-lived, and she ultimately endorsed Joe Biden after suspending her campaign.

In a notable departure from the Democratic Party in 2022, Gabbard criticized its leadership, describing it as "under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness."

Since then, she has actively engaged with conservative media outlets and events, including addressing the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), where she accused the Democratic elite of undermining democracy and questioned Biden's ability to withstand political pressure.

“I’ve met a lot of strong, tough, people in my life, I can’t think of a single one who could not only withstand all they are throwing at Donald Trump without crumbling,” she said at the event.

"Now I have known Joe Biden for a long time. I used to consider him a friend. Do you think he could handle this pressure? I don’t think so.”

That said, a friend of Gabbard’s and a former senior campaign staffer from her 2020 campaign reportedly told the Daily Beast on condition of anonymity that she is open to roles focused on military or veterans' affairs within a potential Trump administration.

While Gabbard has yet to make a definitive decision on endorsing Trump, her friend revealed that she is not ruling it out.

Internet slams Gabbard

However, Gabbard's remarks have sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with some questioning her ideological consistency and accusing her of opportunism.

"Funny that she ran as a Democrat but would be thrilled to be Trump's VP. The two don’t add up," one posted on X.

"She’s working for Putin," another alleged.

"Russia is cheering. Americans are rolling their eyes," someone else offered.

"Talk about being a turncoat... At this point, it's clear Tulsi never had any principles and is lost," a comment read.

"To move from Bernie Sanders to Trump illustrates that @TulsiGabbard has no underlying beliefs nor values. These two men are a world apart. She is just another shallow political opportunist looking for a job," another chimed in.
