WASHINGTON, DC: Colorado's Supreme Court decided on Tuesday, December 19, that Donald Trump will not be allowed to run for president in that state's 2024 presidential primary, The Daily Mail stated.

The 77-year-old former president was taken off the ballot after the court ruled that he was ineligible for the White House based on the US Constitution's insurrection clause. This is the first time in history that a presidential candidate has been disqualified under Section 3 of the 14 Amendment.

The court mention in its 4-3 decision, “A majority of the court holds that Trump is disqualified from holding the office of president under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.”

The judgment is on hold until January 4, or until the US Supreme Court rules on the matter. One expects Trump's campaign will be popular. In a statement, it expressed its "complete confidence" that the US Supreme Court will grant the former president's petition swiftly, "finally putting an end to these un-American lawsuits".

Trump's team said that the ruling was "wholly flawed" and unsurprising, pointing out that Colorado's court is composed of judges nominated by Democrats. However, the majority of the court stated in its ruling that they did not get to their decisions hastily.

“We are mindful of the magnitude and weight of the questions now before us. We are likewise mindful of our solemn duty to apply the law, without fear or favor, and without being swayed by public reaction to the decisions that the law mandates we reach,” the majority stated.

The decision was made following the lawsuit's rejection by a lower court judge in an earlier ruling. The judge determined that Trump had incited an uprising by rejecting the results of the 2020 presidential election, but he was not eligible for disqualification since it was unclear if the law applied to the commander-in-chief.

The Colorado lawsuit is just one of many that have been launched nationwide to prevent Trump from running for office again. The purpose of Section 3, which has been brought up in the judicial proceedings, was to forbid former Confederates from re-entering politics following the Civil War.

The decision was swiftly denounced by other Republican contenders opposing Trump.

Internet hits back at Colorado SC's decision

The Colorado SC's decision to disqualify Donald Trump from running for president received mixed reactions from social media users.

A user commented, "As usual this doesn't surprise any of us. What this does offer is another example of Democrat tyranny. Republicans leaders must retaliate with everything they've got."

Another person said, "All their plans failed. This is the only thing left for them…", while one added, "They tried to tell us that Donald Trump was a danger to democracy, but it was them all along."

Another person mentioned, "Democrats have not only been stealing elections in the US but they've also been interfering in elections overseas. Pakistan is the prime example.

One user wrote, "Crystal clear that the objective is a tyrannical global government."
