PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Former President Donald Trump compared the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny to his ongoing legal struggles, stating it made him "more aware" of what is happening in the country, NBC News reports.

The remarks about the 47-year-old Navalny were the first since his death was reported on February 16.

"The sudden death of Alexei Navalny has made me more and more aware of what is happening in our Country," the White House hopeful wrote on his Truth Social platform.

"It is a slow, steady progression, with CROOKED, Radical Left Politicians, Prosecutors, and Judges leading us down a path to destruction. Open Borders, Rigged Elections, and Grossly Unfair Courtroom Decisions are DESTROYING AMERICA. WE ARE A NATION IN DECLINE, A FAILING NATION! MAGA2024," he added.

Navalny, the most formidable critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, died after falling unconscious at the Polar Wolf, the Arctic penal colony where he was imprisoned for thirty years under charges of extremism.

Donald Trump refrains from condemning Putin for Alexei Navalny's death

Navalny's death drew widespread condemnation from world leaders, with the majority pointing fingers at the Russian President, including President Joe Biden, who explicitly stated, "Putin is responsible."

However, Trump refrained from even mentioning the Russian President's name while responding to Navalny's death. Instead, he pivoted focus to the recent New York civil fraud trial ruling against him.

The Republican frontrunner complained about Judge Arthur Engoron's February 17 verdict ordering him to pay a $355 million penalty for illegally inflating the price of his properties in the Empire State to secure favorable bank loans.

Trump's refusal to condemn Putin for the jailed opposition leader's death came almost a week after his green signal to Russia when he announced his decision to abandon "delinquent" NATO allies in the event of a Russian attack.

Nikki Haley, the ex-presidnet's sole GOP presidential primary opponent, called out Trump's response to Navalny's death. "Donald Trump could have condemned Vladimir Putin for being a murderous thug. Trump could have praised Navalny's courage. Instead, he stole a page from liberals' playbook, denouncing America and comparing our country to Russia," Haley wrote on X, sharing a screenshot of Trump's Truth Social post.

Donald Trump over 'disgraceful' response to Alexei Navalny's death

Outraged with Trump's "disgusting" response to Navalny's death, social media users blasted the former President for "embarrassing" the nation. One user stated, "Absolutely disgraceful."

Another weighed in, "GOSH!!! THIS GUY CAN'T STOP EMBARRASSING AMERICA."

A third user remarked, "Everything is always about him!" A fourth user said, "Sick of Trump."

"Disgusting," a response read. Another opined, "No limit to how disgusting 45$ can be, is there?"

Another user wrote, "tRump is beyond evil to using someone else's death to benefit himself. tRump claims to be a man of God. But anyone with any senses knows this is a lie since a real person of God would never ever do this ever."
