WASHINGTON, DC: Nikki Haley, a Republican running for president, attacked former President Donald Trump for his defense of Russian President Vladimir Putin after learning of the prison death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

Russian news agencies reported on Friday, February 16, that 47-year-old Navalny had died in jail following a loss of consciousness and unsuccessful attempts at resuscitation.

According to Russia's Federal Penitentiary Service, the leading opponent of Putin was serving an 18-year term in a Siberian prison colony and felt ill after going for a stroll.

Nikki Haley takes a jibe at Donald Trump

Nikki Haley took to social media platform X and posted, "Putin did this. The same Putin who Donald Trump praises and defends. The same Trump who said: “In all fairness to Putin, you’re saying he killed people. I haven’t seen that.”"

When Trump made those remarks in 2015, he was the front-runner for the presidency and refuted the idea that Putin was killing journalists.

She added in a follow-up post, "Putin murdered his political opponent and Trump hasn't said a word after he said he would encourage Putin to invade our allies. He has, however, posted 20+ times on social media about his legal drama and fake polls."

Internet trolls Nikki Haley for her statement on Donald Trump

Nikki Haley's tweet on Donald Trump was not taken well by several people on the internet and they ended up trolling her.

A user wrote, "And yet you will endorse Trump when you drop out in a few weeks. Shame on you", while another said, "Nobody is following your lead. Nobody believes what you say. You are pulling a DeSantis thinking you are somehow going to win over Trump supporters. You won't."

A user further said, "Biden, who you support is doing it. The same people handling Biden are handling you. Biden and Putin are the same. Donald Trump does not support Putin. Don't you remember when everyone (democrats) laughed at Romney for calling Putin our enemy? "

Another person added, "Trump is NOT a Putin supporter. As world leaders they respected each others positions. This is why Trump was respected around the world by world leaders. Because he acknowledged their power and harbored world peace". One said, "The last time your allies pushed a Russian hoax on Donald Trump it was a lie. You sure you wanna go down this road?"
