WASHINGTON, DC: Former president Donald Trump is traveling to Detroit for a roundtable discussion at a church in an effort to connect with Black voters

Pastor Lorenzo Sewell of 180 Church stated that Trump's visit "means so much" to the community ahead of the meeting on 'Fox & Friends First' on Friday, June 14.

Pastor Lorenzo Sewell says Donald Trump will 'value our voice'

"Sometimes we forget about the Black vote. Sometimes we forget about the power of what it means to vote for those who are in office and, in urban America, our voice matters. That's why it means so much to us that the former president will come and value our voice," he said, according to Fox News

Pastor Lorenzo Sewell says he can't remember the last time a president laid out a plan for the Black community

Before Trump developed the Platinum Plan which contained about $500 billion for Black-owned companies and churches, Sewell said he couldn't recall the last time a president had outlined a plan for the Black community. "Those metrics matter to us. So we're going to ask him, we're going to hold him accountable to the Platinum Plan that he produced," he said.

Pastor Lorenzo Sewell says President Joe Biden has forgotten about the Black community

According to Sewell, President Biden has lost sight of the Black community which aided in his election to the presidency. "I believe our current president has forgotten that the reason why he's in office is because the first Black president selected him as a vice president, and because he selected a Black vice president," he said.

He added, "At the end of the day, in urban America, typically people are on the menu, and they're never at the table."

Pastor Lorenzo Sewell shared the importance of faith irrespective of one's political stance

Sewell emphasized the value of religion irrespective of one's political stance. "We can vote different. But we are all called to love the same Jesus Christ. He loved you regardless of your background or your political affiliation," he said.

Minority voters seem to trust Donald Trump rather than Joe Biden

Recent surveys indicate that minority voters seem to be losing interest in President Biden. The New York Times, Siena College, and the Philadelphia Inquirer published polls in May that indicate Trump is leading in five of the six crucial battleground states where Biden lost by a narrow margin to him four years ago.

The polls showing Biden ahead of Trump among Black voters, 63% to 23%, are particularly worrisome for Democrats because that represents a significant decline from the 87% of Black voters who backed Biden in 2020 and helped him win Georgia and other swing states.

If Election Day results hold true, Black voters' support for Trump surpassing 20% of the total vote would represent the highest level of support for a GOP presidential candidate among this group in many years.

Former Detroit Police Chief James Craig noticed the shift

James Craig, the former chief of police in Detroit, said on 'Fox & Friends' on Friday, June 14, that he has observed a change in the attitudes of Black citizens regarding illegal immigration and the economy.

"People are sick and tired. I've had a lot of conversations in my barbershop. We talk about politics all the time. And these are African American men, and they say they're ready for change. Now, some are very quiet, they may not speak out loud, but they come to me," he told host Lawrence Jones.

Internet praises Donald Trump for putting an effort to connect with Black voters

Netizens hailed the former president for trying to reach out to the Black community which Biden has seemingly overlooked as of late. One X user tweeted, "Biden literally has forgotten. Nice to see Trump chasing votes and not taking an entire race of people for granted like democrats do."

Another opined, "Yeah, good for Trump I guess. But let's not get it twisted, he's only talking to Black folks now because his polls are tanking. Meanwhile, Biden's gotta focus on getting the job done instead of playing politics. He's lost sight of what got him there in the first place."

"Biden is an empty suit, let's stop acting like it's a person," added one user while another wrote, "Trump brings Americans together, Biden divides." One user opined, "I don’t think the Biden administration has done much for the Black Community, I can see why they are looking for change." "Biden has forgotten he is in office," another chimed in.
