WASHINGTON, DC: American comedian Colin Jost had the audience in fits of laughter at the White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington, DC, on April 27 with a clever dig aimed at Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of former President Donald Trump.

Lara had also recently sparked a social media frenzy by speculating about a hypothetical physical showdown between her father-in-law Donald and current US President Joe Biden. This drew widespread attention and trolling online.

In a recent episode of her podcast, 'The Right View with Lara Trump', she also faced a tough question from a viewer, "Is Lara Trump as stupid as she appears to be?" Lara didn't miss a beat, turning the awkward moment into a political dig at the Democratic Party, suggesting the questioner must be one of their supporters.

This move backfired, leading to even more trolling on social media.

During his routine, Jost singled out Lara Trump, wife of Trump's third son Eric and the newly appointed co-chair of the Republican National Committee, who was present at the event.

As stated by MSNBC, he joked about her rendition of Tom Petty's 'I Won't Back Down', quipping, "There are so many incredible individuals here tonight, Lara Trump is here tonight. She recently released a cover of the song 'I Won't Back Down'. Upon hearing it, Tom Petty (original singer of the track) died again."

The audience erupted in laughter.

Continuing the jest, Jost added, "I can’t believe I’m saying this to a member of the Trump family, but maybe stick to politics."

Internet mocks Lara Trump's singing

Many people online agreed with Jost's humorous barb at Lara Trump's singing.

A user wrote, "My ears are still bleeding from the song."

Another user lauded Jost's humor saying, "Brutal. Love it !"

A user commented, "Laura needs to continue singing for her own pleasure…Because it’s certainly not a pleasure for the rest of us. She’s like the kid auditioning for American Idol that we all think, “their parents really need to stop telling them what an awesome singer they are”!"

Another user commented, "It’s true. She’s terrible."

A user stated, "She can’t be roasted hard enough. #veteransagainsttrump."
