WASHINGTON, DC: A wave of outrage erupted online as Donald Trump's campaign blasted the Colorado Supreme Court for barring Trump from appearing on the state's ballot for the 2024 presidential election.

On Tuesday, December 19, 2023, a divided Colorado Supreme Court found the former president ineligible for the presidency under the insurrection clause of the United States Constitution and removed him from the state's presidential primary ballot.

“A majority of the court holds that Trump is disqualified from holding the office of president under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment,” the court wrote in its ruling.

The 4-3 decision will be put on hold until January 4, awaiting Trump's appeal to the US Supreme Court, which could settle the matter for the nation.

The ruling by a court whose judges were all chosen by Democratic governors is the first time Section 3 of the 14th Amendment has been used to disqualify a presidential candidate in history.

The state Supreme Court decision only applies to Colorado, but the historic ruling will roil the 2024 presidential campaign, according to CNN.

How Trump's campaign reacted to the Supreme Court ruling

In a statement, the Trump Campaign spokesman Steven Cheung attempted to portray the 4-3 verdict by the state's top court as political interference intended to prevent President Joe Biden from facing Trump in November.

“Unsurprisingly, the all-Democrat appointed Colorado Supreme Court has ruled against President Trump, supporting a Soros-funded, left-wing group’s scheme to interfere in an election on behalf of Crooked Joe Biden by removing President Trump’s name from the ballot and eliminating the rights of Colorado voters to vote for the candidate of their choice,” Cheung said in a statement.

The statement further claimed that “Democrat Party leaders are in a state of paranoia” and they “have lost faith in the failed Biden presidency and are now doing everything they can to stop the American voters from throwing them out of office next November.”

Cheung then called the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision “flawed” and said they “will swiftly file an appeal to the United States Supreme Court and a concurrent request for a stay of this deeply undemocratic decision

“We have full confidence that the US Supreme Court will quickly rule in our favor and finally put an end to these unAmerican lawsuits,” he continued.

Internet reacts to Trump campaign’s statement

After the statement from the Trump campaign surfaced on social media, many users mocked the former president, with one saying, “This will be fun watching Trump NOT trying to delay a case 🤔.”

“Donald T. appealing? Dream on regarding all the lawsuits against him pending at the moment,” the second user mocked. “What happens when they won’t hear the case like the “stop the steal,” cases in 2020?” the third user trolled.

“I guess Trump will have sale some more NFTs to pay his legal bills!😉 Trump is a loser!” the fourth user stated, while the fifth one wrote, “Absolutely corrupted, this should not end well.”

“Time to see how much good will he purchased,” another one said.
