NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Congresswoman Elise Stefanik became the target of a furious backlash as Rep. Kathy Manning (D-NC) accused her of plagiarizing one of her letters just hours after she denounced Harvard University President Claudine Gay as “a plagiarist".

On Tuesday, December 12, the New York Republican blasted Harvard’s decision to stand behind Harvard President Claudine Gay despite the accusations of antisemitism and plagiarism leveled against her.

“This is a moral failure of Harvard’s leadership and higher education leadership at the highest levels,” complained Stefanik, according to Mediate.

“And the only change they have made to their code of conduct, where they failed to condemn calls for genocide of the Jewish people, the only update to the code of conduct is to allow a plagiarist as the president of Harvard,” she continued.

What allegations did Kathy Manning level at Elise Stefanik?

Just hours after Stefanik denounced Gay for plagiarism, Manning accused her of copying one of her letters. The North Carolina Democrat took to her X (formerly  Twitter) to share photos of two letters which were almost word-for-word identical in the first three paragraphs.

“Can anyone spot the difference between the first 3 paragraphs of these two letters…?” tweeted Manning, adding “One is my letter, and one is @RepStefanik plagiarizing my letter to try and get her 15 minutes of fame. Don’t take my word for it, see for yourself.”

Manning’s spokesperson Gia Scirrotto told Politico that she and Stefanik were working on a joint message denouncing the presidents of Harvard, MIT and the University of Pennsylvania for their testimony in Congress last week.

However, the collaboration broke down when Stefanik persisted in utilizing the message to demand that the presidents of the universities resign from their positions, which Manning found to be excessive.

Stefanik went ahead and used language drafted by Manning's staff anyway, according to Scirrotto, and published the letter Friday without Manning's signature.

Scirrotto called it “unfortunate” that “Rep. Stefanik chose to take our language and use it as her own.”

Following the accusations, Stefanik released a statement on X, saying Manning “got much less support for her weaker letter” and was “now trying to do a hit piece to help panicked Democrats who are clearly on the wrong side of history protecting these university presidents".

Internet reacts to Manning's accusations against Stefanik

After Manning’s accusations surfaced on social media, many users slammed Stefanik for calling Gay “a plagiarist” despite copying allegedly copying a letter.

“Her hypocrisy knows no bounds. Deplorable,” one user slammed. “True to MAGA form, every accusation is a confession,” the second user blasted.

“Behold the peak of hypocrisy from none other than Elise Marie Stefanik. Harvard's finest liar and a rotten egg in the MAGA world. Her face seems as if she's been stung by a swarm of 🐝🐝🐝” the third user said.

“There's a hamberder where her soul used to be,” one user fumed.

Another wrote “Disgraceful, she has zero integrity & no conscience. She is becoming the female version of Trump-lies, distortions, grandstanding-all propaganda no substance or action!"

“It's weird hos Stefanik wants to pretend she cares about antisemitism now, after backing the most antisemitic nominee her party has ever had,” one more said.
