WASHINGTON, DC: A Colorado county Republican group said that it was calling off a fundraiser with Kristi Noem, the Governor of South Dakota and a possible Republican nominee for vice president, following her revelation of killing her dog in her upcoming book, according to NBC News.

The group's fundraising dinner was scheduled for Saturday, May 4. However, Jefferson County Republican Party Chair Nancy Pallozzi announced in a statement on Friday, May 3, that it was being canceled 'due to safety concerns' as the group, the governor and her staff, and the hotel hosting the event received "numerous threats and/or death threats".

Pallozzi said, "After a conversation with the Governor’s office late Wednesday, we mutually decided that safety was the most important concern for everyone involved."

She added, "The Denver West Marriott also received alarming comments and shared with us their deep concern over the safety and security for those attending our event, other guests, and their staff."

Pallozzi stated that Noem received confirmation in early April that she would be the keynote speaker at the Jefferson County Republicans' annual fundraiser, after receiving an invitation from the party in January.

In a statement, Pallozzi said that Noem "has, and continues, to stand up for our Constitutional rights, our freedom, and less government, which is the Republican Party platform". Her group, she said, "was not taking a position on the public outcry on the Governor’s book".

Pallozzi said to NBC News over phone that the decision to cancel the fundraiser had not been taken hastily. She said, "We have lost money in this. This was meant to be a fundraiser, but now we've lost thousands of dollars."

Noem sparked outrage after she admitted killing her dog Cricket in her upcoming book 'No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward'.

Pallozzi stated that 300 copies of Noem's book, which the publisher had granted special permission to be distributed during the event, will be given away, along with a "full refund" for tickets. It was also expected that Noem would sign autographs and take pictures at the event.
