NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene blamed the Democratic Party for creating a false narrative surrounding election interference to ban the social media platform TikTok ahead of the presidential election, in a Tuesday, March 12, post on X.

Greene's tweet comes in light of a House bill that has been gaining traction, popularly known as the "TikTok ban bill". Incidentally, it was introduced by GOP lawmaker Mike Gallagher, who recently clarified in a 'Fox & Friends' interview that the "bill is not an outright ban as TikTok has been lying and telling its users."

"It is a forced divestiture," he explained, before adding, "What we are requiring is that TikTok separate itself from Chinese Communist Party control which would allow for a better user experience going forward..."

Developed by the Chinese tech giant ByteDance, TikTok reportedly has almost 150 million users in the United States alone and has long been rumored to share user information with the Chinese government.

Taking to the social media platform, the US representative from Georgia wrote, "While I don’t support ANY foreign interference in America, Democrats are creating a narrative that TikTok is going to 'interfere in elections,' so they can claim the 2024 election is rigged just like they did in 2016."

"This is why Democrats support banning TikTok. The Dems are ready to ban any social media they see as a threat including X and Truth Social. Get ready for a new crackdown," Greene continued.

"As a member of Congress and candidate who was banned by Democrat-controlled Twitter, I know first hand about election interference," she said, before adding, "We have to protect FREE SPEECH!"

Greene has been vocal in her support for the app since her endorsed candidate, former president Donald Trump, backed TikTok over social media on Friday, March 8.

Internet reacts to Marjorie Taylor Greene's post

Netizens slammed Greene for standing by the app and blaming the ban on Democrats even though the bill is "bipartisan".

"You certainly don’t mind if your Russian handlers get involved again, traitor," wrote a social media user.

"We already know you don’t have the numbers to win," jibed another.

"Sounds like you’re struggling to choose whether you want to use Tik Tok more than protecting people’s privacy," commented a third.

"Once again you got it twisted. It’s a bipartisan bill and only people with Russian ties are against it," another noted.

"Are you the product of a traumatic brain injury?" asked another.
