WASHINGTON: On Friday, December 16, a federal jury directed Rudy Giuliani to compensate two Georgian election workers with over $148 million for falsely accusing them of ballot fraud during the 2020 presidential election.

The astounding amount includes over $16 million in defamation damages and $75 million in punitive penalties. Additionally, each of the two election workers received verdicts of $20 million for emotional anguish.

A federal judge read the decision aloud to Giuliani while he was in court. The plaintiffs happily hugged as the court adjourned, while Giuliani, standing by himself, packed a suitcase without opening it, according to NBC News.

In 2021, Ruby Freeman and Wandrea "Shaye" Moss, litigants who are mother and daughter, initiated a lawsuit against Giuliani. The legal action includes allegations of slander, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and civil conspiracy.

Rudy Giuliani says he does not regret a 'damn thing'

On Friday, December 16, Rudy Giuliani informed reporters that, despite being ordered to pay substantial sums of money, he expressed no regrets for his actions pertaining to the 2020 election.

"I don’t regret a damn thing. The absurdity of the number underscores the absurdity of the entire proceedings. I am quite confident that when this case gets before a fair tribunal, it’ll be reversed so quickly, it'll make your head spin," Giuliani asserted.

The decision for defamation damages is the most recent in a string of legal setbacks for Giuliani, which are connected to his role as Donald Trump's lead campaign attorney and his attempts to overturn the former Republican president's defeat in that race.

In their efforts to avert Trump's victory, Giuliani, Trump, and 17 other defendants were indicted by a Georgia state criminal court.

Internet trolls Rudy Giuliani

Several people on the Internet trolled Rudy Giuliani for saying "I don’t regret a damn thing". A user commented, "Alcohol usually is a good remorse killer I suppose," while one added, "Rudy ‘homeless’ Giuliani. Can’t wait to see what shopping cart he’s pushing down 5th Avenue and from what grocery store."

Another person added, "He knows that Papa Trump will come and rescue him when he gets reelected" while one added, "See how long it takes for him to open up his wallet."

Another person added, "I genuinely don’t care if he has regrets. I don’t care if he has grown. I don’t care if he has found enlightenment."
