‘It was magical and vulnerable’: Madonna on working with daughter Lourdes Leon on ‘The Test’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Madonna has shared insight into her collaboration with her daughter, Lourdes Leon, on the single ‘The Test’.
The pop icon revealed that working with her 29-year-old daughter was an emotional and vulnerable process.

The new song is part of Madonna’s 2026 studio album ‘CONFESSIONS II’.
To discuss the collaboration, the mother-daughter duo sat down for an interview with Bob the Drag Queen in June, offering a behind-the-scenes look at Madonna’s iHeartRadio and TikTok Live album release party in London.
The interview was released on Thursday, September 24, with Leon revealing that it was her idea to collaborate with her famous mother. “It was my idea. I think that between a mother and a daughter in a relationship, there’s a lot of things that are unspoken,” the young singer said, as per PEOPLE.
She continued, “There’s a lot of love that is unspoken, but also a lot of tension and emotions that are difficult to put into words,” before adding, “A way that I thought would be easier for us to speak about these things would be maybe through art, which is always something that my mom and I have connected over.”

Agreeing with her, Madonna stated, “We don’t always agree on things, but we love creativity, and art has always connected us. It was a very magical moment, and we both had to be vulnerable."
The ‘Queen of Pop’ also admitted during the interview that “there were moments in the writing process when we were in the studio where I felt like crying.”
Lourdes Leon opens up about Madonna’s influence
Leon then shared that she actually cried. The dancer was also asked by Bob if she had to “build up the courage” to ask her mother to collaborate.
In response, she said, “Maybe this is gonna sound stupid, but she’s a very intimidating person, and I have found that I’m not intimidated by many people as a result of her being my mom.”
The ‘Popular’ singer then added, “Kind of a no-brainer.”
Madonna explains Lourdes Leon’s approach to her career
The new interview came after Madonna spoke with Graham Norton in June for BBC Radio 1, where she opened up about her daughter and explained why she wants Lourdes to create her own path.
“She's been very reluctant to work with me. She doesn't want to be perceived as my daughter taking advantage of her privilege. She's been very stand-offish, working at her own pace, and I respect that deeply,” she explained.
