Jacob Elordi mocked for missing Cannes 2026 over broken toe as Stellan Skarsgard attends after stroke

Stellan Skarsgard said his stroke left him struggling to follow thoughts, adding he fears 'not being capable of living' more than death

CANNES, FRANCE: Jacob Elordi and Stellan Skarsgard have been compared online for all the wrong reasons after the young Australian actor dropped out of the 2026 Cannes Film Festival over a broken toe while Skarsgard, 74, is attending despite suffering a stroke.

Earlier in May, it was reported that Elordi, 28, would not be able to serve as a juror at the prestigious event, running from May 12 to May 23, after breaking his foot.

Stellan Skarsgard opens up about stroke recovery

Jacob Elordi, who rose to fame after 'The Kissing Booth' and 'Euphoria,' is reportedly set to appear next in Ridley Scott’s post-apocalyptic sci-fi film 'The Dog Stars.'

On the other hand, Skarsgard is serving as a jury member at the 79th Cannes Film Festival after suffering a stroke three years ago.

“Well, the spring in my step is a bit limp. I’ve had a stroke, and I’m trying to get up all the staircases … It’s really difficult,” the Swedish actor said during a press conference ahead of the festival’s opening ceremony when asked about feeling a “spring in his step” after the recent Cannes success of 'Sentimental Value.'

Stellan Skarsgard fears losing ability to live independently

Earlier, the 'Good Will Hunting' star had also candidly opened up about his health scare and its aftermath.

Last year, while promoting 'Sentimental Value,' Skarsgard reportedly said, “I can’t follow a thought or make an argument that spans several sentences that gets to the point. That is extremely frustrating. But on the other hand, I’m alive. I can work.”

He had even noted at the time that he’s “not afraid of dying, but I am afraid of not being capable of living. That is a fear.”

“I feel a little more like I live under the sword now. Because I’ve lived a naughty life. And I’m 74, which is already on overtime,” Skarsgard added.

Fans praise Stellan Skarsgard, mock Jacob Elordi’s absence

Now, people online are mocking Elordi while comparing him with the much older Skarsgard.

Sharing a clip of Skarsgard at the festival’s press conference, one X user wrote, “Jacob Elordi not showing up because of a fractured toe.....”

Another X user commented, “Respect. There are many very healthy and able actors who get paid a lot of money to do press on behalf of a film and they don’t.”

“The fact he’s still showing up and working after a stroke honestly says a lot about his resilience,” another person wrote online.

“Accessibility in Cannes, episode number, we've kind of forgotten... But let's have a thought for Jacob Elordi's foot,” a comment in French read.

Another comment said, “Meanwhile that little monkey jacob elordi canceled cuz he broke his foot kkkkkkkkkk.”

But there were also some users who defended Elordi.

One fan said, “Damn, it seems like it really gets to you that Jacob Elordi didn't attend Cannes this year, so go ahead, head to his place and carry him in your arms with his two broken feet like he has, and take him up and down the stairs every time he has to watch the 80,000 movies the jury has to see."

“It seems like everything was already confirmed, but he had this accident and ended up having to back out at the last minute,” another fan added.
