WASHINGTON, DC: Democratic strategist James Carville is tripling down on his prediction that President Donald Trump will leave office next spring, while forecasting an unusually weak JD Vance presidency.

Carville said Vance would inherit the White House with Republicans potentially losing control of both chambers after the midterms.

The veteran strategist made the remarks on Thursday, August 27, on his Politicon podcast while answering listeners who asked what a Vance presidency might look like.

James Carville predicts JD Vance will inherit a weakened GOP

Carville said Trump’s political influence would diminish before Vance takes over, leaving the vice president with little time and limited congressional support.

“It’s a good question. And first of all, if I’m correct on it, if what happens is going to happen. JD Vance would be facing – yeah, Trump’s two years are one thing, alright, he was a year ago everybody had to pay attention to him, everybody had to return his phone call,” Carville said.

He argued Republicans would lose significant ground in the midterms and said Vance would not control either chamber.

“He is down to 50.5 in South Carolina, in Oklahoma. And Vance, when this happens, and Vance becomes president, he’s definitely not going to have the House. Also, I don’t think he’s going to have the Senate,” Carville said.

Carville also said Vance would have less than two years remaining in the presidency under his prediction, which he said would make him a lame duck.

“And he’s going to be a lame duck because he’s only going to have less than two years to go. [Secretary of State] Lil Marco [Rubio] will be sniping at him,” Carville said.

He then tied the expected congressional losses to broader Republican turmoil, saying the party would recognize that Trump would not protect Vance.

James Carville has repeatedly stood by his Trump prediction

The latest comments mark at least the third time Carville has publicly promoted his prediction that Trump will resign next spring.

In June, Carville said he was not making the forecast simply for effect, but because he genuinely believed Trump would leave office.

“I’m not doing this as a crazy a** prediction, I'm saying that because I genuinely think that he will resign next spring,” Carville said at the time.

He later narrowed the prediction to a specific point on the calendar, saying Trump would leave the presidency by Easter 2027.

“I’m telling you, this guy, by Easter of 2027, is just gonna walk away from this job,” Carville said.

Democratic strategist sums up his bleak Vance prediction

Carville’s latest forecast goes beyond predicting Trump’s departure. He also offered a stark assessment of what he believes a Vance presidency would look like if Trump leaves next spring.

He predicted Vance would face a Republican Party weakened by midterm losses and would have Rubio criticizing him.

Carville concluded that the combination would leave Vance with little political room to operate during the remainder of the term.

“So JD Vance, in my opinion, will be president next April. He will be the most constrained, ineffective, babbling president in the history of the United States,” Carville said.
