Jasmine Crockett urges fellow Democrats to 'unite' behind Biden amid rising calls for him to step aside
WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) called for Democrats to remain "united" in support of President Joe Biden amid increasing demands within the party for him to step away.
The president's poor performance during his presidential debate against Donald Trump has led numerous Democratic pundits and strategists to suggest that Biden should withdraw from the 2024 race to make space for a better candidate.
Among them is David Axelrod, a former official in the Obama administration, who said Biden's recent interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos was "sad" to watch, according to Mediaite.
Rep Jasmine Crockett urges fellow Democrats to 'stay the course' and support the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris ticket
Meanwhile, in an interview with MSNBC host Katie Phang on Saturday, July 6, Texas Rep Crockett urged her party members to "stay the course" and support the Biden-Harris ticket this November, citing that Trump "only cares about himself."
Phang asked, "Congresswoman, you’ve been outspoken about your support for the president, even posting on Twitter that you are riding with Biden. So what do you say to the voters who may still have some concerns about Biden’s ability to beat Donald Trump?"
Crockett said, "Let me tell you, you know, the difference between the Democrats and the Republicans could not be more stark in so many ways. One of those ways that I think about is the fact that even those Democrats that are calling for the president to step aside, they’re not calling for the president to step aside because they think that Joe Biden’s a terrible person because they think that he’s a failure."
She added, "They’re calling for him to step aside because they are scared. One thing that I think we all are united in, no matter where you stand, is our fear."
"Our fear that somehow Donald Trump can get back into the White House, our fear that the Supreme Court will absolutely end up becoming even worse because we know that Donald Trump plans to put two more Supreme Court justices on that court and give them lifetime appointments," elaborated the Texas lawmaker.
She stressed, "Our fear, because we know the reality of what they are seeking and project 2025. And so the only thing that I’m asking everyone to do is to unite around the ticket. The ticket at this point in time is Biden and Harris. And so long as the president says that he can do this job, then that is our ticket."
"We have a democratic process. We went through the primary, and to subvert the will of the people based on polls is not what we do in a democracy. When we think about it, if the polling was right, we never would have had a Donald Trump. If the polling was right, we wouldn’t have Democrats overperforming by 20 points in a number of elections," further expressed the congresswoman.
Crockett urged, "Let’s stay the course. Let’s recognize who the real enemy is. Let’s not give fodder to the Republicans come November by tearing each other apart."
Internet agrees with Jasmine Crockett as she defends Joe Biden's 2024 bid
Netizens agreed with Crockett as she urged fellow Democrats to keep their faith in Biden.
One wrote, "I agree. tRump is unfit," and another said, "Biden has been in office for 3 and half years. Literally, every single month of his presidency, US has experienced a job growth. Every. Single. Month. That is a record. At this time during the tRump presidency, US was shedding all the jobs it had created the three years prior."
"Biden's debate performance was actually better, in terms of telling the truth and bringing forth facts. Trump was one idiotic lie after another. CNN counted 30," claimed a person, alluding to the lies told by Trump during the June 27 presidential debate.
"There tens of millions of people who have one goal vote against Trump! Hey! Thats me too!" remarked someone else and an individual added, "Absolutely. Joe’s got this. He can’t lose."
