WASHINGTON, DC: Vice President JD Vance earned the ire of the Internet in his attempt to defend President Donald Trump's recent tariffs and ridicule China during an appearance on the Thursday, April 3 episode of 'Fox & Friends', reported BuzzFeed.

The previous day, the POTUS announced "reciprocal" tariffs on approximately 90 nations across the globe, which left the stock market reeling in its wake, evaporating trillions of dollars.

The dire situation has led the incumbent to be severely criticized and forced his allies to rush to his defense.

JD Vance's insensitive comment about Chinese people

During his interview with 'Fox & Friends' co-host Lawrence Jones on Thursday, JD Vance voiced his skepticism for a "globalist economy" while claiming that Donald Trump wanted to steer the United States in a "different direction".

"I think it's useful for all of us to step back and ask ourselves, what has the globalist economy gotten the United States of America? Fundamentally, it's based on two principles: Incurring a huge amount of debt to buy things that other countries make for us," observed the vice president.

"To make it a little more crystal clear, we borrow money from Chinese peasants to buy the things those Chinese peasants manufacture," Vance insensitively stated to illustrate his point.

"That is not a recipe for economic prosperity, it's not a recipe for low prices, and it's not a recipe for good jobs in the United States of America. President Trump is taking this economy in a different direction," he added.

Internet slams JD Vance over 'Chinese peasants' remark

JD Vance's remark on "Chinese peasants" has gone viral on the social media platform X and has earned him widespread criticism. The following tweets demonstrate the predominant takes.

"The epitome of external locus of control. In Vance’s mind, American workers cannot compete with Chinese peasants. Is something going wrong in your life? It’s Chinese peasants’ fault. This is a loser mentality," wrote a user.

"Where did this guy learn about diplomacy?" asked another.

"If you want to know why the US keeps losing to China, this is why: Racism, imperialism, arrogance and ignorance," stated a third.

"He’s such a jerk. So embarrassing," jibed a fourth.

"Peasants? Since when did Peasants have enough money to lend anyone? What an idiotic thing for Vance to say & he from a humble background too," noted a fifth.

"The vitriolic hatred displayed when he says 'Chinese peasants' is disgusting. The language of an arrogant, prejudiced, and angry little man," expressed another.
