‘JD wants to chat’: Katie Zacharia’s final moments before abrupt exit as Trump’s press secretary
WASHINGTON, DC: Katie Zacharia's brief stint as White House press secretary reportedly ended abruptly after a senior Trump aide interrupted her interview with Wall Street Journal reporters.
The aide delivered a message that JD Vance wanted to speak with her, prompting her to leave the office, where she never returned.
The incident occurred on Friday, October 16, just five days into her tenure. Minutes later, President Donald Trump publicly questioned whether the job was right for her, following criticism of her first briefing and questions about her credentials.

Jason Miller interrupted Katie Zacharia’s interview
According to the Wall Street Journal reporters, senior Trump adviser Jason Miller entered the press office while Zacharia was speaking with them.
“JD wanted to chat with us real quick,” Miller reportedly told her.
Zacharia excused herself and left the office but never returned, the reporters said.

Minutes later, Trump told reporters that he had questioned whether Zacharia wanted to continue in the role.
“Is this for you Katie? Because honestly, you don’t need this,” Trump said, recalling their conversation.
He added, “You don’t have to do this if you don’t want to… honestly if I were you I’d reconsider.”
Asked whether he had confidence in Zacharia, Trump replied, “I don’t know. We’ll see. I’m gonna let her make that decision.”
Katie Zacharia faced backlash over first briefing
The reported exit came just days after Zacharia's first press briefing, which lasted 14 minutes and drew criticism over her delivery.
She stumbled over a question about Ukraine and mistakenly announced an unconfirmed dismissal.
Zacharia later told the Wall Street Journal that she had only 24 hours to prepare for the briefing.

“The truth is that I have a hard time saying ‘no’ because I want to be a team player,” she said, adding that she was not accusing the White House of rushing her.
She also admitted she was running on “no sleep and high adrenaline and probably too much caffeine and no food”.
One former Trump official described her as an “overwhelmed substitute teacher,” while conservative commentator Candace Owens criticized her for reading from a script, including her own name.
Sean Hannity interview intensified scrutiny of Katie Zacharia
On Thursday, Zacharia appeared on Fox News with Sean Hannity. Insiders told Politico that the interview was a “sanctioned hit,” with questions focusing on her credentials and performance in the press briefing room.
The scrutiny intensified after reports emerged that she had failed her bar exam.
Meanwhile, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles was reportedly involved in the events leading to Zacharia's departure.

Despite the growing criticism, Zacharia appeared unaware that her position was in jeopardy.
During her Wall Street Journal interview on Friday, she said there were “no staffing changes that are happening”, just minutes before Miller reportedly interrupted the conversation.
Katie Zacharia praises Trump after White House exit
Following her exit, Zacharia took to Instagram to share a picture with Trump and praise the president.
“President Trump is a kind, wonderful, gracious, thoughtful, enthusiastic, and the most hardworking man,” she wrote.
“I wish more Americans appreciated him. No one will ever make America great the way he has and continues to,” she added, concluding, “It was an honor to work for him.”
