LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jeanine Pirro, a prominent Fox News host, recently came under fire after a recent segment of 'The Five', where she falsely claimed that changes are being made to the upcoming presidential debate format between President Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump.

According to Mediaite, during her show, Pirro suggested that both candidates would be seated during the debate, implying an advantage for Biden.

Jeanine Pirro's claim sparks debate format controversy

During the show, Jeanine Pirro stated, “The whole idea that, you know, they’re out there saying this election is not about age, Joe and the other guy are about the same age, even for the debate is– as Jesse is saying, they’re gonna be seated.”

“We don’t even get to see them walk in. They’ll be seated so that, you know, there is one less obstacle to worry about for Biden,” the Fox News host continued.

However, CNN swiftly debunked Pirro's claim, clarifying that both candidates would be standing during the debate. A spokesperson for CNN emphasized that both campaigns agreed upon the format, which involves both Biden and Trump standing for the duration of the debate.

The spokesperson stated, "CNN’s proposed format was to have both candidates stand and both sides agreed to the rules when they agreed to debate."

Origins of misinformation and debate rules confirmed

The misinformation appears to have originated from a viral social media post by the conservative Washington Reporter, citing unnamed sources alleging that the Biden campaign was seeking a rule change to allow Biden to be seated. CNN and other reputable sources have confirmed that this claim is inaccurate.

According to CNN, "Microphones will be muted throughout the debate except for the candidate whose turn it is to speak. While no props or pre-written notes will be allowed on the stage, candidates will be given a pen, a pad of paper, and a bottle of water."

The foremost presidential debate is set for June 27 in Atlanta and marks the first face-off between Trump and Biden in 2024.
