Jennifer Garner calls ex-husband Ben Affleck an 'incredible co-parent' years after divorce
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Jennifer Garner is reflecting on the strong co-parenting relationship she now shares with ex-husband Ben Affleck years after the end of their marriage.
The actress recently credited Affleck for helping her balance motherhood and her acting career. She revealed that his support allowed her to take on a major new television role and described him as an "incredible co-parent."
Jennifer Garner says Ben Affleck's support helped her accept 'The Five-Star Weekend'
Garner credited her co-parenting arrangement with Affleck for making it possible to accept her latest acting project. While discussing 'The Five-Star Weekend' with Entertainment Weekly, the actress explained that she was initially hesitant to sign on because it meant spending months away from her three teenage children.
"When it was offered to me, it was supposed to shoot, I think, in Nova Scotia," Garner explained. "I said, 'I would love to do it, but like everything, I really only work in LA. I have three teenagers, and I can't leave for four months. It's just not worth it to me.'"
The situation changed after the show's producers reworked the production schedule, moving most of the filming to Los Angeles and limiting the location shoot in Nantucket to just one month.
"They can stay with their dad," Garner said, referring to Affleck, whom she called "wonderful." "He takes care of them," she continued. "He's a great partner in that way. And so that's very freeing."
Looking back on the years when her children were younger, Garner said she intentionally made family her top priority and has no regrets about doing so.
"There is a time in your life where you just do get caught up in all of that. And that's OK. Nothing is forever," she explained.
"That's a season. And it's a beautiful thing. And I wouldn't trade a minute of it. But I feel like my kids are a little bigger (now). Their dad has become this incredible co-parent."
Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck continue to prioritize co-parenting after divorce
Affleck and Garner announced their separation in 2015 after 10 years of marriage and finalized their divorce in 2018. Despite the challenges that marked the end of their relationship, the former couple has remained committed to co-parenting their three children, Violet, 20, Seraphina, 17, and Samuel, 13.
Although their marriage ended years ago, the two have continued to prioritize their children while supporting one another as co-parents. Even after Affleck rekindled his relationship with Jennifer Lopez and later married her, he and Garner maintained their shared parenting responsibilities.
Over the years, they have built a respectful and supportive co-parenting relationship, with Garner's recent comments reflecting the mutual trust and understanding they have developed long after their split.
