NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Fox News host Jesse Watters seems to believe that it’s unjust for former President Donald Trump to be compelled to attend his criminal trial.

As Trump’s hush-money trial in Manhattan entered its second week on April 22, with opening arguments commencing after a jury was selected last week.

Jesse Watters labels treatment of Trump during trial 'cruel punishment'

Watters also criticized the requirement for Trump to be present in court every day of his trial, labeling it as “cruel and unusual punishment.”

He said, "The guy needs exercise. He’s usually golfing, and so you’re going to put a man who’s almost 80, sitting in a room like this, on his butt for all that time? It’s unhealthy. He needs sunlight, and he needs activity. It’s really cruel and unusual punishment.”

Watters' comments come as part of the recent 'The Five' segment, where he sharply criticized the hush money case against Donald Trump as "pure evil," launching into a fervent rant about the treatment of the former president.

Trump, who has pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records to hide payments linked to affairs, faces restrictions on his movements and speech during the trial.

Elsewhere in the segment, Watters declared, "They’ve taken away his freedom of speech and now his freedom of movement," highlighting the strict conditions Trump is subject to during the trial.

Drawing a comparison between Trump's circumstances and those of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Watters pointed out what he perceived as favorable treatment for detainees at Guantanamo Bay, including access to amenities like a soccer field.

Watters faces social media backlash for comments on Trump trial

Jesse Watters faced a barrage of trolling on social media, with several X users attacking him.

One X user wrote, "Wait till he gets in his jail cell."

Another X user said, "Listening to your endless f*****g lies is what constitutes "cruel and unusual punishment."

One more user noted, "Now Trump’s too old to sit in a courtroom? Then he’s too old to be POTUS, Jesse."

"Racist Jesse strikes again sympathizing an old white privileged guy," said another user.

"Also Watters- Make this man who can't sit through 8 hours of court the President of the United States," another viewer observed.

"Don’t worry, he will get all the exercise he needs in jail," one viewer joked.
