WASHINGTON, DC: CNN's Jim Acosta and commentator Scott Jennings engaged in a fiery debate over the cognitive capacities of former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden.

Acosta, guest-hosting on Friday's edition of 'The Source' referenced a CNBC report detailing business leaders' perceptions of Trump's speech during a recent meeting. According to CNBC's Andrew Ross Sorkin, CEOs described Trump's dialogue as meandering" and lacking coherence.

Judge Juan Merchan scheduled Trump's criminal trial to begin on April 15, which would make it the first criminal prosecution of a former American president. Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records last year, which prosecutors say was an effort to hide a potential sex scandal, both before and after the 2016 election. Sorkin, discussing the meeting attended by around 80 CEOs including Tim Cook of Apple and Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase, remarked, "I spoke to a number of CEOs who I would say walked into the meeting being Trump supporter-ish, or thinking that they might be leaning that direction, who said that he was remarkably meandering, could not keep a straight thought, was all over the map."

During the discussion, Acosta played clips of Trump's recent statements, including remarks on the supposed dangers of electrocution and shark attacks while traveling in battery-powered boats. He also noted Trump's peculiar praise of the fictional character Hannibal Lecter.

In response, Jennings argued that criticisms of Trump's coherence were misplaced, pointing to instances where Biden has made dubious claims. “Look, if you’re worried about incoherence, I mean look, Joe Biden has claimed his uncle was eaten by cannibals,” Jennings added.

“He has claimed he was arrested with Nelson Mandela. He has claimed all kinds of crazy things that make no sense whatsoever. And so I hear people unspooling this about Donald Trump, it’s just– do you not know who he’s running against? This attack on him for this is not going to work and it’s because of Joe Biden constantly, every day–”

“Biden gets a lot of coverage for it in particular on a certain network,” The host interjected. “But Scott, you know, Trump talking about sharks – and do you stay in the boat? Or do you get eaten by the shark? Or do you get electric? I still– I’ve watched that one clip I think like 100 times in the last week. I still don’t know what the hell that is.”

“I don’t know,” Jennings replied. “We’ll have to decide if we want to be eaten by sharks or by cannibals.”

Cognitive capacities debate of Donald Trump vs Joe Biden draws Internet users' attention

A user tweeted, "The problem is, I’ve watched and listened to Biden a lot. And I’ve watched and listened to Trump a lot. They’re both old men. But Biden’s not the one who seems to be exhibiting signs of a real problem."

Another added, "I really believe the debate will clear this up. Old relative who everyone thinks has slowed down but still is sharp vs. old and crazy relative who is losing it mentally. We will all be able to make that contrast soon enough."

A third said, "Scott Jennings make no sense ever!"

"He actually didn't ban weapons, bro; it was an accessory," said a user.
