NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Amid conspiracy theories surrounding the political motives of Charlie Kirk's alleged killer, Tyler Robinson, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel weighed in during his monologue on Monday night, September 15.

He accused the MAGA movement of trying to distance itself from Robinson and suggested that Robinson was "one of them."

Kimmel also mocked Donald Trump’s response to the tragedy and criticized right-wing commentators for what he called desperate attempts to portray the suspect as anything but a MAGA supporter.

What did Jimmy Kimmel say about Tyler Robinson?

Jimmy Kimmel took aim at the MAGA movement, suggesting that Charlie Kirk’s alleged killer was one of their own.

“We hit some new lows over the weekend,” Kimmel said during his monologue, “with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

Kimmel also mocked Donald Trump’s response to the tragedy, criticizing both the decision to fly US flags at half-staff and Trump’s choice to talk about ballroom renovations when asked to comment on Kirk’s death days later.

“This isn’t how an adult grieves the murder of somebody he called a friend,” Kimmel joked. “This is how a 4-year-old mourns a goldfish. Ok?”

Is Tyler Robinson affiliated with the right or the left?

Both FBI officials and Utah Governor Spencer Cox have said the alleged shooter embraced a “leftist ideology” and had become increasingly radicalized in recent years.

A source familiar with the investigation confirmed that the FBI is looking into potential connections between Robinson and leftist groups in Utah.

Authorities shared additional details at a recent press conference, including text messages between Robinson and his roommate — who is also his romantic partner and a transgender woman. In one message, Robinson wrote: “I had enough of his [Kirk] hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out. If I am able to grab my rifle unseen, I will have left no evidence. Going to attempt to retrieve it again, hopefully they have moved on.”

Notably, there is no clear, confirmed evidence tying Robinson to a formal political group on either the left or the right

Internet reacts to Jimmy Kimmel's claims about Tyler Robinson

A video of Jimmy Kimmel claiming that Charlie Kirk’s suspected killer was part of the MAGA movement went viral, amassing over 6.6 million views and sparking more than 5K comments online.

One user wrote, "This is like 100x worse than I would have ever expected. Just telling obvious lies. I wouldn’t even expect this from AOC or Bernie, the basic denial of the truth that the shooter was a leftist. Seeing it from a comedian and talk show host on prime time is actually shocking to me."

A commenter said, "Sounds like we need to stop watching Jimmy Kimmel."

Another speculated, "He’s gotta be fired over this. Insane."

One person expressed frustration, "@JimmyKimmelLive is just a disgusting human being @ABCNetwork and @Disney should do something about this idiot spreading lies about the assassin being on the right. Was clearly a leftist according to all the evidence. But truth doesn’t matter to him."

Another urged, "Hey @ABCNetwork @Disney ... Get this clown Kimmel off the air."

An X user dubbed it, "Evil levels of gaslighting."

Jimmy Kimmel slams Trump's response to Charlie Kirk's death

Jimmy Kimmel previously criticized Donald Trump’s response to Charlie Kirk’s death. On the September 11 episode of 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!,' Kimmel accused Trump of politicizing the tragedy and failing to show leadership or unity.

“With all these terrible things happening, you would think that our president would at least make an attempt to bring us together, but he didn’t,” Kimmel said. “President Obama did. President Biden did. Presidents Bush and Clinton did. President Trump did not. Instead, he blamed Democrats for their rhetoric.”

Kimmel went on to cite Trump’s own controversial remarks and actions, saying, “The man who told a crowd of supporters that maybe the Second Amendment people should do something about Clinton."

He added, "The man who said he wouldn't mind if someone shot through the fake news media. The man who unleashed a mob on the Capitol and said Liz Cheney should face nine barrels shooting at her for supporting his opponent, blames the radical left for their rhetoric.”
