WASHINGTON, DC: A report claims that top officials from the Joe Biden administration are considering whether to allow a limited number of Palestinians into the US who are escaping the region amid the deadly Israel-Hamas war, the New York Post reported.

According to documents cited by CBS News, one suggestion made by authorities in recent weeks was to use the US Refugee Admissions Program to offer refugee status to anyone who fled the Gaza Strip and entered Egypt.

Notably, Egypt would probably need to cooperate in that endeavor. According to the report, Palestinians with family in the US could also be admitted.

Biden administration considering accepting refugees from Gaza

A White House spokesperson told the New York Post, "Since the beginning of the conflict, the United States has helped more than 1,800 American citizens and their families leave Gaza, many of whom have come to the United States."

The spokesperson added, "We have also been clear and consistent: the United States categorically rejects any actions leading to the forced relocation of Palestinians from Gaza or the West Bank or the redrawing of the borders of Gaza."

Notably, potential refugees would probably have to go through screenings to determine their eligibility, health, and security risks before being allowed to enter the country.

Moreover, they would probably need to furnish proof of their escape from persecution. That may be difficult for anyone claiming to be escaping persecution from Israel, a significant US ally in the area.

People could be able to say they are escaping Hamas, which the US considers to be a terrorist group.

Interestingly, a person with refugee status can apply for financial aid, permanent residency in the US, and a path to citizenship. A strategy like that would be a significant change for the US refugee program, which hasn't traditionally allowed large numbers of Palestinians entry into the US.

Based on figures from the State Department, the United States has accepted nearly 400,000 refugees in the last ten years. This included at least 16 Palestinians between last October and March 31 and 56 in fiscal year 2023 before the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Several people on the internet slammed the Biden administration as a report claims they are considering accepting Gazan refugees from the Israel-Hamas war.

One social media user wrote on X, "Of course, he does. Whenever there is an issue, Biden's on the wrong side of it. No way this doesn't blow up in our faces, maybe literally.

Another added, "Not even other countries in the Middle East want the people from Gaza. Gaza has been the cesspool of the Middle East for centuries."



 



 

One individual asked, "What can be done to stop this administration?"

"That would sure alleviate a problem for some people over there. It's definitely going to create a new problem or us over here," a social media user wrote.



 



 

One person stated, "They are all staying with members of Congress, Joe, and Kamala’s houses in an exciting new program called 'FAFO,'" while another noted, "No one in that part of the world wants them, why would we?"
