RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA: Joe Biden called on people to "set politics aside" and prioritize Hurricane Helene relief efforts on Wednesday, October 2.

Shortly after, however, he contradicted himself by stating that anyone who believes climate change played no role in the disaster "must be brain dead." This remark has sparked outrage among social media users.

Joe Biden urges for unity amid climate crisis

During a recovery briefing in Raleigh, NC, the retiring 81-year-old president stated, “In a moment like this, we put politics aside, at least we should put it all aside, and we have here,” as reported by the New York Post.

Biden added, “There are no Democrats or Republicans, there are only Americans, and our job is to help as many people as we can, as quickly as we can, and as thoroughly as we can.”

After conducting an aerial survey of the Asheville region with North Carolina's Democratic Governor Roy Cooper and emergency personnel, the consoler-in-chief quickly shifted to criticizing predominantly Republican skeptics regarding the impact of fossil fuel usage on severe weather conditions.

“Nobody can deny the impact of [the] climate crisis anymore — at least I hope they don’t. They must be brain dead if they do,” Biden jabbed.

U.S. President Joe Biden speaks after meeting with North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell, and Homeland Security Advisor Liz Sherwood-Randall on the ongoing response to the aftermath of Hurricane Helene in the Oval Office of the White House on September 30, 2024 in Washington, DC. The President has said he plans to travel to North Carolina on Wednesday as authorities face challenges delivering supplies to isolated, flood-ravaged areas in the Southeastern United States as the death toll from Hurricane Helene tops 100. “Scientists report that with warming oceans powering more intense rains, storms like Helene are getting stronger and stronger — they’re not going to get less, they’re going to get stronger. Today in North Carolina, I saw the impacts of that fury,” he went on to say.

Joe Biden faces backlash over hurricane comments

Biden has faced widespread criticism for his handling of the storm, with detractors pointing out that he managed the initial response from his Delaware beach house. His recent comment calling his political opponents "brain dead" has further fueled the backlash.

A post from Donald Trump's campaign sarcastically commented, “Biden — the uniter-in-chief — says Americans "must be braindead" if they "deny" the hurricane damage is because of climate change.”

The comment section of the post was filled with strong criticism towards Biden.

“Biden is the last person who should criticize someone’s brain,” one user said.

Another added, "That's the pot calling the kettle black."

A third commentator remarked, “Biden is pathetic.”

"Funny he would talk about people being brain dead. The lack of self awareness is staggering," an X user commented.

A person claimed, "Says the most brain dead person in the government."

Another added, "I’m really surprised Biden chose the term brain dead. Actually… Not surprised… Perhaps more impressed with the irony!"
