Trump accused of downplaying Hurricane Helene as he tells victims 'you'll be OK' amid 95 casualties
WALKER, MICHIGAN: GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump is facing major backlash on social media for commenting on the plight of the victims of Hurricane Helene and telling them that they would be "OK" while speaking at a campaign rally in Walker on Friday, September 27.
"Alabama and all the other states who have been really hit hard by that very large hurricane ... this week, we're with you all the way and if we were there we'd be helping you. You'll be okay," he stated at the rally.
A video clip of the remark was soon uploaded on X by the Democratic nominee Kamala Harris' campaign, hinting that the former president was downplaying the disaster and showing a lack of empathy, reported The Washington Post.
The tweet read, “You’ll be okay,” along with the note that said, “(Dozens of deaths have already been reported).”

Donald Trump calls climate change 'the greatest scam'
Hurricane Helene has reportedly left a wide path of destruction in its wake from Tampa, Florida, to Tennessee, resulting in the death of at least 95 people, according to ABC7 New York
MSNBC reported over a million residents of Trump's home state of Florida were without power as a result of the natural disaster on Friday. At the same time, the former president gave a speech from the Trump Tower in New York, where he doubled down on ignorant claims about climate change.
"You notice that they don’t ever mention anything about environment anymore? What happened to the environment? They don’t mention it. They don’t mention that the ocean’s going to rise a quarter of an inch over the next 500 years,” Trump stated targeting liberals.

He later added that the real issue is not global warming but "nuclear warming."
Trump repeated his claim at another rally, where he shared, "They don't talk about environment anymore, do you know why? ... It's (because climate change is) one of the greatest scams of all time."
