WINDSOR LOCKS, CONNECTICUT: Former president Joe Biden was greeted by well-wishers at Connecticut’s Bradley International Airport on Friday, May 23, in his first public appearance since his cancer diagnosis.

The former president's office announced last week that he has been diagnosed with an "aggressive" form of prostate cancer, which has already spread to his bones.

A clip that went viral on social media showed Joe Biden at the airport, surrounded by people cheering and clapping, and several of them shaking hands with the former president.

The clip was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by @ChrisDJackson who captioned the post, "A viral TikTok shows President Joe Biden walking through the airport—greeted with cheers and handshakes all around. No theatrics. No ego. Just quiet strength and decency on full display. He’s earned every bit of it."

Meanwhile, a source informed WCAX that Biden was in the area to attend his grandson’s graduation.

On May 13, a spokesperson for the Democrat confirmed to ABC News that a small nodule was found in the 82-year-old's prostate after "a routine physical exam."

A few days later, Biden's office released a statement that read, "Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone," according to CNN.

The statement further said, "While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management. The president and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians."

Prostate cancer is the second most common form of cancer affecting men, after skin cancer, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Moreover, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that 13 out of every 100 men will develop prostate cancer at some point in their lives.

Biden's physical examination took place in a Philadelphia hospital a day after his appearance on ABC's 'The View'. It was one of the few appearances the former POTUS has made since leaving office, according to Mediaite.

"President Biden's airport walk, met with genuine warmth and respect, showcases his enduring connection with everyday Americans. This moment of quiet leadership and decency stands in stark contrast to the often theatrical nature of politics," a tweet read.
