WASHINGTON, DC: A Joe Biden's campaign official reportedly made an unusual comment in response to actor and Democrat George Clooney's call for the President to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

The exchange follows Clooney's brutal op-ed in the New York Times questioning the President’s ability to serve a second term.

George Clooney's brutal op-ed about Joe Biden

In his op-ed, George Clooney, 63, criticized Biden’s performance in the recent debates and expressed concerns about his physical and mental fitness for the presidency. Clooney, a longtime supporter of the Democratic Party and a former donor for Biden argued that the President faces an insurmountable "battle against time."

“The Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010,” Clooney wrote in the op-ed. “He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate,” the star added.

Clooney’s comments reflect his disappointment after Biden’s awful performance in the debate and his growing concern about whether the President can successfully serve a second term.

Clooney lamented, “It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010.” He continued, “The one battle he cannot win is the fight against time. None of us can,” he added.

Joe Biden campaign official takes swipe at George Clooney

In response to Clooney's critique, a Biden campaign official made an unusual comment about Clooney, the Daily Mail reports. CNN's White House correspondent Kayla Tausche reported that the aide claimed Clooney left the event three hours before Biden, suggesting that Clooney’s stamina was lower than the President."

“A campaign official who attended that Los Angeles fundraiser tells me that George Clooney left three hours before the president,” Tausche said. Tausche elaborated on the response, noting, “The point of that is to suggest that Biden’s stamina is better than Clooney’s and Clooney didn’t have eyes on the entire event.”

She further explained that Biden’s aides are using the President’s upcoming aggressive travel and fundraising schedule as evidence of his ongoing vitality.

“Biden aides point to an aggressive travel schedule in the coming weeks. He’s set to go to Michigan on Friday, Nevada next week, as well as an aggressive fundraising schedule with events planned in Texas and Colorado and two in California as proof that he is not going anywhere,” Tausche stated.

George Clooney’s op-ed sparks debate within Democratic party over Joe Biden’s 2024 run

George Clooney's criticism is part of a larger debate within the Democratic Party over Biden's fitness to run for president in 2024. In his opinion piece, he sharply criticized Democratic leaders for “ignoring every warning sign” of Biden’s declining health. “Our party leaders need to stop telling us that 51 million people didn’t see what we just saw,” Clooney wrote. “We’re all so terrified by the prospect of a second Trump term that we’ve opted to ignore every warning sign.”

Clooney also suggested that the Democratic Party should explore new candidates. He wrote, “Let’s hear from Wes Moore and Kamala Harris and Gretchen Whitmer and Gavin Newsom and Andy Beshear and JB Pritzker and others,” encouraging a discussion about potential successors at the Democratic National Convention.

Biden, however, remains steadfast about his candidacy. In a letter to Democratic lawmakers, he reaffirmed his commitment to the race and his belief that he can defeat Donald Trump. “I want you to know that despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, to running this race to the end, and to beating Donald Trump,” Biden wrote.

Joe Biden gains support despite George Clooney’s criticism

Despite George Clooney’s criticism, Biden has received support from some Democrats. Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, for example, acknowledged the concerns but emphasized that the decision to run rests with Biden. “It’s up to the president to decide if he is going to run. We’re all encouraging him to make that decision. Because time is running short,” Pelosi said on 'Morning Joe'.

Prominent Democrats are grappling with the question of Biden’s ability to win in November, a topic that has been underscored by recent events and debates. Michael Douglas, a longtime Biden supporter, expressed his concerns, stating, “I am concerned. I think it’s a valid point,” referring to Clooney’s op-ed.

Amid this turmoil, Clooney’s own relationship with Biden has had its ups and downs. In early June, Clooney was reportedly unhappy with the White House after Biden criticized his wife Amal Clooney's efforts to get Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrested for war crimes. Despite this, Clooney hosted a major fundraiser for Biden that same month, raising 30 million dollars for the campaign.

The fundraiser was marred by questions about Biden’s health, especially after a video surfaced showing former President Barack Obama leading Biden off the stage. The White House dismissed the video as fake and emphasized that the event took place shortly after Biden’s return from the G7 summit in Italy.
