CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: John Fetterman has revealed his decision to skip the Democratic National Convention set to begin on Monday, August 19, in Chicago.

The Pennsylvania Democratic senator opted to skip the four-day event to spend time with his family.

John Fetterman's decision to prioritize family

John Fetterman has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate in the upcoming November election.

Showing his support, he was with Harris and Walz in Philadelphia, two weeks ago.

However, his office clarified that the senator had always planned to skip the convention this year to prioritize his family.

“I’ve got three young kids, and they’re out of school. That’s four days I can spend with my children," Fetterman told The Free Press.

John Fetterman's controversies and political stances

John Fetterman has been at the center of some controversy over the past year, particularly regarding his pro-Israel stance, which has stirred tensions within the progressive wing of the Democratic Party.

This faction has been pushing for a ceasefire in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict and advocating for more sympathy for Palestinian victims.

In addition to his political stances, Fetterman made headlines in June when he crashed his SUV in Maryland, colliding with another vehicle while speeding.

The senator was found to be at fault for the accident.

According to his office, the senator from Braddock had booked a vacation for this week well before the announcement of the bus tour.

However, Fetterman has not shied away from expressing his support for Harris-Walz ticket.

On Monday, August 19, he tweeted, "they just won Pennsylvania” in response to a post about the candidates' visit to a Sheetz convenience store in Moon, Pennyslvania.



 

Internet doubles down on John Fetterman's absence from DNC

As John Fetterman confirmed he will be skipping the four-day Democratic National Convention, netizens doubled down on the senator's decision.

One user on X wrote, "Fetterman is literally distancing himself from the DNC." Another tweeted, "In a city full of snakes and sycophants, be a Sen. Fetterman." One individual penned, "WOW. How long until Fetterman becomes an Independent?"



 



 



 

"If he had any courage..he would," a netizen commented. Someone remarked, "Maybe he can be flipped, it’s not going to be pretty this week in Chicago." Another individual opined, "Interesting. When does he switch parties to become an independent?"
