WASHINGTON, DC: Democratic Sen John Fetterman of Pennsylvania publicly pushed back against former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi after she described President Donald Trump as “the worst thing on the face of the Earth” during a CNN interview.

Pelosi made the incendiary remark on 'The Story Is with Elex Michaelson,' calling Trump “a vile creature,” in a clip released Monday on X. Fetterman, appearing on Fox News’ 'The Story with Martha MacCallum,' said Pelosi’s language was “not appropriate” and that Democrats damage their credibility when they resort to personal insults.

“I would say that some of the worst creatures on the face of the earth are Hamas or the leadership of Iran or there’s a lot of people on that list,” Fetterman said when asked about Pelosi’s comments. “I would never use those kinds of terms, and I wouldn’t describe our president that way.”

“You can really disagree with him, and I do disagree,” Fetterman added, “but I don’t think that’s really entirely appropriate. But that’s her words for that. So for me, that’s just a different kind of a Democrat.”

The Pennsylvania senator’s response came just one day after he told Fox’s 'Jesse Watters Primetime' that Democrats risk losing moral ground when they demonize political opponents instead of debating policy differences.

“I’m not gonna call you a fascist or a Nazi,” Fetterman said on Monday. “I’m not gonna compare anyone to Hitler or anything. That’s wrong. And if you resort to that thing, you’ve lost the plot.”

He continued, “Because if you call him [Trump] a fascist then you have to think, ‘Well, maybe the people that vote for him and I know people that love him are fascists.’ That’s just not true. And I know people that voted for the other side, and they’re not trying to destroy our Constitution.”

Fetterman’s comments stood in sharp contrast to Pelosi’s characterization of the president.

During her CNN interview, Pelosi doubled down on her assessment, calling Trump “vile” and “a danger to democracy.” Her remarks immediately drew backlash from both Republicans and moderate Democrats who viewed the comments as divisive.

Fetterman has strongly supported Israel since the war with Hamas began on October 7, 2023, and has repeatedly criticized members of his own party who have expressed sympathy for the Palestinian militant group.
