Jonathan Karl claims Biden’s 2024 run 'erased virtually everything' he accomplished as president
WASHINGTON, DC: Joe Biden's decision to run for reelection in 2024 "erased virtually everything" he accomplished as president, claimed ABC News anchor Jonathan Karl, who suggested the decision was made without a formal discussion, including a clear strategy session and a sit-down meeting to weigh the pros and cons.
Karl made the claim on the Monday, November 17, episode of 'The Breakfast Club' while discussing his new book, 'Retribution: Donald Trump and the Campaign That Changed America'.

Jonathan Karl says Democrats never challenged Biden's decision to run for reelection
Important Democrats never opposed Joe Biden's decision to run for office in 2024, according to Jonathan Karl. "No, they never sat down and said, 'What are the pros and cons? Running again, not running again, what does it look like?'" he said. The ABC News journalist called the reelection bid the "most consequential decision of Joe Biden's professional life."
Additionally, he cited remarks made by Hunter Biden that imply the reelection machinery just started working without much thought.
Karl also claimed that there were not a lot of people involved in the decision-making process for this; even the then-White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients was not in the final meeting regarding his withdrawal from the race.
He further noted that few people in Biden's close circle are "still absolutely convinced that he could have won and that this was a tragedy... that the Democrats forced him out." This led 'The Breakfast Club' host Charlamagne tha God to quip that those people "should be out the pasture just like Biden is."
Jonathan Karl sees it as a failure of the 'whole Democratic apparatus'
In line with former Vice President Kamala Harris' memoir, '107 Days', he described the choice to make the decision on his own as "reckless" and motivated more by ambition and haste rather than accountability and practicality.
The ABC anchor also shifted the blame to the Democratic apparatus as a whole, claiming that party leaders did not consider the wisdom of allowing Biden to run for office again. "It’s not just the party. It’s not just the White House leadership, the vice president. It’s the whole Democratic apparatus. I mean, nobody going in and saying, ‘Wait a minute. Let’s think about this,'" he expressed.
Karl's remarks call into question leadership, legacy, and the extent to which years of policy work can be undone by a political decision.
