NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former President Donald Trump's motion to dismiss some of the charges in the indictment in the classified document case against him was denied by the judge on Monday, June 10, reported Fox News.

According to the publication, the legal team of the presumptive GOP nominee tried to throw out more than a half-dozen of the 41 counts in the indictment, which accuses Trump of illegally hoarding classified documents from his presidency and participating in a conspiracy to conceal sensitive files from the federal government.

The observation of Judge Aileen Cannon

In the order issued on Monday, US District Judge Aileen Cannon stated that "the identified deficiencies, even if generating some arguable confusion, are either permitted by law, raise evidentiary challenges not appropriate for disposition at this juncture, and/or do not require dismissal even if technically deficient, so long as the jury is instructed appropriately and presented with adequate verdict forms as to each Defendants' alleged conduct."

However, she did agree to strike down a paragraph from the indictment that defense lawyers argued was prejudicial information not pertaining to the underlying charges.

This was not the judge's first rejection of motions to dismiss the charges. Cannon had earlier rejected multiple similar motions, stated Fox News.

One of them reportedly suggested that the former President was authorized by the Presidential Accords Act to keep the classified documents with him after he left the White House and to designate them as his personal files.

Pre-trial requests and disputes such as the ones dismissed on Monday have piled up before Cannon for months, which is resulting in the slow progress of the case and the delay in getting the trial started. Further arguments on the matter are scheduled for later in June.

Internet reacts to dismissal of motion

"Sham trial. Joke of a judge," wrote a user responding to the news over the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

"They all need to be thrown out," stated another.

"He has EXECUTIVE PRIVILEGE. There should’ve NEVER been a case," claimed a third.

"The judge understands the evidence can't be dismissed," commented a fourth user. "But once again, MAGA Republicans deny reality."

"Duh. It’s called treason," noted a fifth.
