WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump has recently expressed doubts regarding Taylor Swift's political conviction as he questioned the authenticity of her liberal stance.

The remarks from the former president come from an excerpt of the yet-to-be-released book 'Apprentice in Wonderland: How Donald Trump and Mark Burnett Took America Through the Looking Glass' from Variety co-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh.

According to the book, when asked about the 'Love Story' singer, Trump said, “I think she’s beautiful — very beautiful!”

“I think she’s liberal. She probably doesn’t like Trump,” he said of Swift.

“But she is liberal, or is that just an act?” the politician asked Setoodeh.

Trump then further inquired “She’s legitimately liberal? It’s not an act? It surprises me that a country star can be successful being liberal,” to which the author noted that Swift had transitioned to pop music years ago, as per the excerpt released on Monday, June 10.

Donald Trump says Taylor Swift is 'very talented'

Despite Swift's continuous success in the music industry, including her latest album 'The Tortured Poets Department' becoming her 14th to top the Billboard 200, Trump admitted that he was not well-versed in her music.

“Don’t know it well,” the former president said of Swift's music, adding, “I hear she’s very talented."

“I think she’s very beautiful, actually — unusually beautiful!” he said of the pop star's appearance.

Taylor Swift's political activism

Swift, who maintained a largely apolitical public persona for much of her music career, broke her silence in 2018 to endorse two Democratic candidates in a Tennessee House and Senate race.

The singer has since been critical of Trump, as she accused him of "gaslighting the American public" in 2019.

Weeks before the 2020 presidential election, the 'Anti-Hero' singer endorsed Joe Biden and said she would "proudly vote" for him and his running mate, then Senator Kamala Harris, according to The Hill.

In an interview at the time, Swift said, “Under their leadership, I believe America has a chance to start the healing process is so desperately needs.”

Earlier this year, Biden's presidential election campaign actively sought Swift's endorsement earlier this year, reported The New York Times.

"What Trump is saying is that he doesn't believe women can think for themselves," a netizen commented while another user wrote, "Keep up the winning strategy Donald."

One user wrote, "Hope I'm not this crazy after 34 felonies," and another user tweeted, "Of course he has to attack celebrities who oppose him for 11,780 good reasons.
