WASHINGTON, DC: Former representative Cedric Richmond indicated Vice President Kamala Harris was stepping up her role in the campaign ahead of Election Day in November.

The former lawmaker from Louisiana, who is the co-chair of the Biden-Harris campaign, indicated the vice president's increased involvement in an interview on MSNBC's 'The Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart' on July 7. The remark came amid the White House and the campaign's attempts to quash concerns about President Joe Biden's capability to beat Republican opponent Donald Trump after a disastrous debate performance in June.

Cedric Richmond calls Kamala Harris a 'valued partner'

"She is increasing her role and she's been a valued partner since day one. I won't get into whether she's been covered fairly by the press, but she is a valuable partner. She's incredibly intelligent," Richmond said about Harris, according to The Hill.

"And I will just say she has not only publicly stated her support for President Biden, but she's privately said that too," he added.

Harris's name was among the top as a possible replacement for Biden for the Democratic ticket after calls for the president to drop out heightened due to the lackluster debate show.

Recently, an anonymous document titled "Unburdened by What Has Been: The Case for Kamala" was reportedly circulated in Democratic circles that favored the Vice President as a "viable option" to succeed Biden and defeat Trump if nominated.

However, the vice president reiterated her support for the octogenarian incumbent and his ability for a second White House term.

Richmond also emphasized other speculated Biden replacements, California Governor Gavin Newsom and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, supported the President after the debate.

"I was with Gavin Newsom after the debate when he did the same, and Gretchen Whitmer was on the chairs call yesterday, and she reiterated her support," said the Biden campaign co-chair.

"Leaders are rallying around this president and vice president because they understand what's at stake and they understand what they have accomplished."

Despite continued calls to suspend the campaign, Biden remained firm on his decision to continue, claiming he was mentally fit and that only "Lord Almighty's" intervention could make him step down from competing with Trump.

Kamala Harris mocked as Biden campaign co-chair indicates her increased involvement in reelection

Netizens mocked Kamala Harris while responding to Cedric Richmond's remark that the Vice President was "increasing her role" in the reelection campaign.

"Oh, she finally has a job?" one social media user asked while mocking her.

"So she's going to help him switch out faster? She'll only hurt his numbers if she tries to speak or do anything on camera... haha What an absolute dumpster fire," another remarked.

"You claim Kamala is increasing her role in Biden's reelection! You gotta be kidding. Kamala is off on a lark of her own ha ha ha. Kamala is gonna take 'the big man' down," added one individual.

"FaINT PRAISE FOR kAMELA," read another response.

"Stay tuned for more epic fails brought to our country," one person wrote.

"Well if it’s the same energy she put into the border, it’s a guaranteed failure," someone else said.

"If a white balding old guy had Kamalas track record and personality, he'd definitely be sitting alone on a lawn chair in his driveway," another added.
