Kelly Clarkson admits she was 'horrible' at remembering wedding anniversary with ex Brandon Blackstock
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kelly Clarkson reflects on her forgetfulness about her marriage anniversary while interviewing the WWE legend John Cena on Monday’s ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’.
On Monday, July 1, the wrestling champion came to Clarkson’s show as a guest where both the songstress and Cena opened up about their respective marriages.
The ‘Catch My Breath’ singer then shared an insight into her failed marriage to Brandon Blackstock, saying they were both “horrible” at remembering their marriage anniversary, per Daily Mail.
Kelly Clarkson shares a glimpse of her marriage
While interviewing the ‘Barbie’ actor, Clarkson shared her story as she asked Cena about the reason behind his two wedding dates.
The ‘Barbie’ actor, 47, tied the knot with his wife Shay Shariatzadeh, 37, during the pandemic at a courthouse ceremony in Tampa, Florida on October 12, 2020.
“I hear you had two weddings, one wasn't enough,” asked the ‘Stronger’ singer to her guest, when the wrestler replied, “You're right, one wasn't enough.”
He explained, “We chose to get married during the pandemic and that was because we wanted to share with each other our promise to spend our life together.”
“And, we wanted to surround ourselves with those we love when the world opened and gave us an opportunity to do that,” continued the WWE star.
Following the court marriage, Cena and his wife took their vows for the second time in Vancouver on January 15, 2022.
He shared, “We were grateful enough to have two weddings which means two anniversaries, and another two days in the calendar we can look at each other's eyes and realize we both made the right choice.”
As the wrestler opened up about his two wedding anniversaries, the ‘American Idol’ alum joked, “I feel like such a jerk.”
She explained, “I have a problem remembering one anniversary [and] you have to remember two!”
However, Cena is also not without the flaw of forgetting his wedding anniversary, as admitted, “I'm not saying sometimes they don't slip my mind.”
However, the ‘Broken & Beautiful’ singer admitted that while she was the “worst” in remembering dates, the saving grace in the relationship was that her former husband used to forget the anniversary as well.
“I'm the worst. Luckily my ex was too - we were both horrible,” declared Clarkson.
The couple who separated in 2020, were married October 20, 2013, in Walland, Tennessee. Before filing for divorce, they welcomed daughter River, 10, and son Remington, eight.
Kelly Clarkson and her ex-husband embroiled in legal tussle
Though Clarkson filed for divorce in June 2020 and finalized the procedure in March 2022, her legal tussle with Blackstock was far from over.
During their marriage, Blackstock served as Clarkson’s manager. The singer is now suing him over missing commission fees as she accused him of violating the California Talent Agencies Act and collecting fees on behalf of the deals he helped to get.
Last November, Blackstock was ruled by a California labor commissioner to pay the singer $2.6 million as compensation for his illegally collected fees.
