'She wants what's hers': Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock's marriage was 'full of twisted lies', claims source
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock filed for divorce nearly four years ago, and the two are still at odds in court. Though they have resolved their personal issues, they are still resolving issues arising from their business partnership.
However, the 41-year-old talk show host—who shares son, Remington, 8, and daughter, River, 9, with Blackstock—has adopted a new outlook to fight her most recent legal battle.
Kelly Clarkson refused to be 'bulldozed' in legal battle with Brandon Blackstock
The 'Stronger' singer filed a petition in June 2020 to formally dissolve her marriage, but the split wasn't consummated until March 2022. Blackstock and Clarkson are currently at odds over a labor dispute.
A source recently revealed of 'The Kelly Clarkson Show' host to Life & Style, "While Kelly has moved on emotionally from Brandon, she has no problem being tied up with him in court if it concerns her business and career."
However, Clarkson has relegated the conflict to the courtroom and made sure she keeps any bad feelings to herself and away from their children Remington and River.
"She doesn’t disparage him in front of the kids, and she’s cordial and civil, but when it comes to the law and her money, she won’t be bulldozed," the source explained.
As per the labor commissioner of the state, the commissions that Blackstock took while serving as Clarkson's manager at Starstruck Management violated California statutes and are the subject of their current legal dispute.
Blackstock obtained her roles on 'The Voice', 'Wayfair', 'Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCL)', and the 'Billboard Music Awards' by acting as her "unlicensed talent agent."
Though "each and every allegation" in her most recent March lawsuit has been fiercely refuted by Blackstock.
Kelly Clarkson 'just wants what’s hers', claims source
As per their latest legal dispute, Clarkson has asked her ex-husband to pay her over $2.6 million, which she claims she is entitled to. In November 2023, a California labor commissioner sided with the 42-year-old and deemed the amount to be her debt.
The confidante admitted, "Their marriage was full of twisted lies," adding, "She just wants what’s hers."
The insider said that Kelly's move to New York City with her children in 2023 "gave Kelly a new beginning," adding that "a core group of friends Kelly’s known for 30 years have been her rock."
According to an insider who spoke to Us Weekly in March, the former 'Voice' judge wanted everyone to know that "filing this lawsuit against Brandon had nothing to do with her alimony payments."
It's a sign that Clarkson is starting a new chapter in her life and that she "won’t be taken advantage of."
Although her continuing legal struggle continues to take up most of her attention, Clarkson's friends hope to help her find love again in the future, per OK! Magazine.
The insider revealed that Clarkson "does go out to meet people, but there hasn’t been anything very serious — yet." However, "Everyone is eager to set her up."
However, Clarkson is not interested in experimenting, despite her friends' wishes for her to meet someone new.
"Dating sucks. It’s so awkward," the singer stated previously. "I was single until I was, like, 30, and I forgot how really good at that I am."
